minijc
Sir Alex Ferguson believes it will be "very embarrassing" for Tottenham if they decide to carry out their threat to report Manchester United to the Premier League. Chairman Daniel Levy is furious at United for what he sees as the very public courting of striker Dimitar Berbatov. However Old Trafford boss Ferguson maintains he never mentioned anyone by name when he revealed they had tabled a bid for a player. Ferguson claims his remarks were misreported by a national newspaper and that United may now bring in their legal team. Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa, he said: "It is going to be very embarrassing for them (Tottenham). "But you know what Daniel Levy is like. He is different." Interesting... Link to comment
florin_raducioiu
I think there are too very different scenarios here. Berbatov has said for a year that he wants to play Champions League football at a "big" club, and that he wouldn't get that at Spurs, and therefore wants to leave. Man Utd put a bid in, and Spurs are negotiating the price. They can moan all they want, but they will sell the player for Link to comment
Guest LondonScottish
Good point and while Real Madrid got off with whatever happened with Ronaldo, United have obviously though frigg it, if they can get away with it then so will we. But where/when have Utd directly said they wanted Berbatov in public? Link to comment
K-9
But where/when have Utd directly said they wanted Berbatov in public?Apparently Fergie said it at a fans meeting and although Man Utd denying it Spurs claim they have proof!! Think everyone waiting to see what Spurs have submitted as must have something decent before taking things this far. Link to comment

Its perfectly ok for Sunderland to court Tottenhams's dead-wood of Chimbonda, Tainio, Malbranque and Kaboul for Link to comment

Guest LondonScottish
More like it is showing Man Utd up for being 2 faced and arrogant since this is same as the Ronaldo complaint they made such a huge fuss about. But no doubt Man Utd being Man Utd will get off with it and Levy will look stupid. But Man Utd have 100% said Ronaldo is not for sale. Period. Tottenham are prepared to sell Berbatov for Link to comment

E-P-K
Manchester United's Scandinavian supporters' branch claims they were to blame for the recent quotes attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson talking about Dimitar Berbatov. The group, who run a popular website in Norway, published quotes from Ferguson which are in turn believed to have been carried by some leading British newspapers. Although the interview from Ferguson about Berbatov was claimed as an exclusive by one newspaper, the webmaster for the supporters' club feels they are to blame after misquoting the United boss. "A feather has become 35 hens here. It might seem like we are to blame for what has happened," admitted the branch's webmaster Steinar Madsen to Aftonposten. "We are to the blame in the sense how the interview was presented. Ferguson didn't mention the name Berbatov when he was interviewed by us. "I would call it a misunderstanding. It was tricky conditions for the interview. "As journalists, you have probably experienced this yourself, how it is to listen to the tape afterwards. "That can cause problems and Ferguson's accent is not too easy to understand to start with. "Ferguson confirmed that United had tabled an offer. "We assumed it was Berbatov he was talking about. We might have taken it too far." Link to comment

Site Sponsor RTYD Posted July 24, 2008 Site Sponsor Share Posted July 24, 2008 I haven't heard anything more about Dimitar Berbatov but what I have heard is Robbie Keane is to sign for Liverpool this week, it will be announced soon, was speaking to a couple of guys on the bus that are big Liverpool fans and they were telling this morning about it. One of them said they can see Keane playing next week in the Lazio game, I don't know if it's 100% right enough, but they seemed adamant. He should help them to cement 4th place. Link to comment

That story was in the Liverpool Echo. I could see this happening as Kean is a LFC fan. However, I would doubt Spurs would get rid of both the Berb and Kean especially after selling Defoe. That would leave them with Bent and new teenager Dos Santos up front, which is pretty uninspiring. Unless they manage to sign Garcia. As a Spurs fan, I'm hoping they manage to break into the top 4 this season. Modric is a great signing and we've already strengthened the defence (still need a decent keeper though). Plus we're getting rid of all those diddies (cheers Sunderland) . Hopefully some more big signings still to come.... Link to comment
