Agree with all of it. That he lost 5 Oz open finals (4 to Djokovic and 1 to Federer), without managing to win one, particularly irks me. He was so strong at that tournament but, unfortunately for him, Djokovic is almost as dominant there as Rafa has been at RG.

Don't think he ever really managed to master clay and get to the level he was on all other surfaces, so I'm not too disappointed he never won in Paris. However, the fact he won Masters titles on clay and got to the final in the French is a testament to his desire/determination to improve and succeed.

Agree that he'd be in double digits if it wasn't for those 3. He's as good as all those older guys IMO.

I am chuffed he is the Olympic king though and has something none of those other guys do. I just wish he'd won those golds for Scotland.

Was a wee bit emotional when his career. He's given me the greatest sporting moments of my life and I'll miss him being a focal point of my tennis fandom.

The greatest Scottish sportsman ever without a doubt.

Fucking hell.

I regret nothing.

A normal boy, my age, from 20 miles up the road and he worked his way to be the best player in the world, in an era with the 3 best players of all time.

He is and always will be, my hero.

he was the 4th best

(no shame on him, the other 3 were all time legends)

Agreed, the Australian Open was the one I always wanted him to win the most, after five runner's up finishes. He's just unfortunate he had to contend with the 3 GOAT male players. Of course, the order of those 3 is another pub debate...

Federer

Djokovic

Nadal

Sir Andy

In that order for me. Andy has given us some great moments, but overall not in the top 3.

Yes, I agree with that order. As much as Djokovic has had an incredible run, it has to be taken into account many of his GS triumphs came after Federer (and to some extent Nadal) had passed their best.

You could argue some of Federer and Nadals triumphs came before Djokovic reached his best.
