Scotland V Iceland

Recommended Posts

Iceland were robbed tonight, they will be absolutely gutted to have come away from this game with nothing. After a very dodgy opening 20 minutes, they just shaded it as the better team throughout in my opinion.

My tuppence worth....

Gordon (8) - Won us three points we did not deserve! Terrific double save near the end, always looked calm and in control of his box.

Naysmith (5) - Nothing like the player he once was 5, or so, years ago. Really struggles now at this level, particularly when players are running at him... his legs are gone, looked cumbersome in posession and gave the ball away too often.

Caldwell (5) - Found it tough going tonight, particularly the last 20 minutes, where he had to do a lot of scrambling. However, held his position well through the 90 minutes.

McManus (5) - Won everything in the air and made a few good interceptions. Was going to give him 6, but loses a point after f**king-up badly for the goal.

Hutton (8) - MOM. Best player on the park. Against the weaker teams, attack becomes the best form of defence and they struggled with his surging runs. Claimed an assist on the goal. A bit slow to get himself back into position, being my only criticism.

McCormack (7) - Playing out of position, worked hard, took his goal well, very comfortable on the ball. Would love to see him played through the middle, as he's proved he has the temperament and ability to compete at international level over the past two fixtures.

Fletcher (6) - Neat and tidy. Good ball retention.

Brown (6) - Didn't create much, but had bundles of energy and put himself about as usual.

(With iceland defending in numbers and essentially playing with a 3 man central midfield, there was little room to break forwards, or play through the middle of the park - not Brown or Fletchers fault really. However, disappointing that Iceland managed to gain control of this area of the pitch in the second half.)

Morrison (6) - Very talented player, seen loads of him this season, and is always among West Broms top performers in the EPL. However, it didn't really happen for him today - was pretty much asked to tuck in on the right handside, allowing Hutton to bomb forward - a waste of a player, as he effectively performed as decoy for much of the game, as he was neither playing on the right or centre. However, worked hard and didn't let anyone down. He'll be a big player for Scotland in future years and will get a move back to the EPL next season.

Misser (a very generous 4) - I could write about 5 pages on the topic - but I'll spare you.... this time. Time is up with the national team I'm afraid - sadly, I've no doubt we'll persist with him till he's well past his best.

Fletcher (6) - performed exactly as he does for Hibs. Very good technically(perhaps the most technically gifted player in the squad - sublime touch) and makes good runs. Yet, inexplicably, he is one of the least threatening strikers I've ever seen! I simply cannot explain this paradox. - he should be a good player, but he really isn't. Anyway, credit for scoring - something he rarely does at hibs and to be frank, I didn't think he had it in him!

Subs

Teale (3) - marginally better than against Holland. Never an international player - found his level in the championship.

Rae (-) - did he touch the ball?

Allan McGregor - Dumb

Barry Ferguson - and Dumber

Never mind the game - it was as frustrating as watching the Dons in parts. Some good lead up play totally f**ked by lack of a decent striker. Then we stood back and watched Iceland (ITS ICELAND FFS) weaving pretty patterns around us and couldnae get the ball off them

We were lucky to get out of it with a 2-1 win.

severe chance that Norway will do us over.

Anyway went drinkin wi a bunch of guys after the game - Ayr United, ICT and Rangers fans. Good bunch. Even the Rangers fans have had it with Ferguson and want him, Smiffy and Mccoist to eff off.

What a shocking performance by Scotland. Iceland looked likely to score every time they went up the park. The defense looked completely inept.

Stunning strike by the Icelandic boy that led to their goal - to say he was off balance just before it was an immense effort.

Reading some of the stuff on message boards this morning I now understand why quite a few of our players looked like they had been on the pi$$

Total lack of professionalism and pride on the part of some of them
