cant tackle, not particularly great in the air, poor positioning, no pace , these are exposed v better sides, as it was when Celtic played in Europe. As a guy to bring on and ping a few crosses in fair enough

can tackle well, quite good in the air, good positioning, fair bit of pace, dead-ball expert, certainly no worse then the other donkeys playing in defence for scotland such as caldwell and berra...

and i'd take semi-talented footballers like mulgrew over english guys like russell martin any day of the week (although phil bardsley is an great coup).

Mulgrew has no pace, and is not a good tackler, if we start him v Belgium or Wales he will get torn apart

Mulgrew wouldn't be a regular for the best team in the SPL if he had no pace and wasn't a good tackler.

In comparison to guys like Vincent Kompany or Gareth Bale then yes we'll get torn apart if we play Mulgrew. In comparison to guys Berra, Caldwell, Martin, Whittaker, Wallace, Crainey etc then we'll be no worse off, and arguably we'll be better off, with Mulgrew playing.

It's academic really because presumably our fullbacks will rightly be Hutton and Bardsley, but the point is that Mulgrew has been playing consistently well for Celtic for a season or two now, and he thoroughly deserves to be called up to the Scotland squad, particularly given this is a friendly in which Levein is likely to experiment a little.

Watched the Hibs v Celtic game yesterday and saw yet another good performance from Charlie Mulgrew. He's an intelligent player with a sublime left peg for set pieces and he's now established at both left-back and in central defence. Admittedly he's come on leaps and bounds at Parkhead and it's a huge pity he wasn't committed to the cause when he playing at Pittodrie.

Presumably the squad for Scotland's upcoming friendly against Slovenia on the 29th Feb will be announced shortly, and Mulgrew must be in the running to win his first international cap.

How very insightful of you scarface :itch-chin:

Great prediction made an hour after he's announced in the squad

haha aye i ken my timing does look daft but i swear i hadn't even been on bbc sport to hear the news that mulgrew had been called-up, although to be fair i have been suggesting he was a scotland international in the making for quite some time now as evidenced by post #82 in this thread.

edit:

I've always thought that he has the potential to be a Scotland international in the years ahead.
