Might have to emigrate if they get it. Horrific thought the amount of wanking that will be going on down south. You'll have to wear wellies to step out of your door LS. Link to comment

Bobby Connor
Based on Euro '96 fans will only turn up for the England games. Football fans my arse. Stadiums will be 1/4 full and are too big. Link to comment
Guest LondonScottish
Why do people always bid for World Cups years ahead..... Yeah we're England, we'll apply for the year 2110, WTF, never understood this. Its usually around 8 years ahead of the next one to finish. Hence people are bidding for 2018, and possibly 2022. Plastic fans who have no real interest in football. This was abundantly evident in Euro 96 where the attendance figures were absolutely dreadful and stadiums were largely vacant. Link to comment

Guest LondonScottish
Fixed that for you. Do they really think Adrian Chiles is going to swing it for them? England haven't had it for 40 odd years. They have one of the best leagues in the World and some of Europe's best stadia. Excellent transport system, and enough accommodation. Euro 96 went off without a hitch. I really don't see where the problem lies. Link to comment

Guest LondonScottish
Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool won't be playing. But Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool (and Wembley) amongst others will be fantastic World Cup Stadia. Also the likes of Newcastle and Villa could also be utilised. I can't think of any negatives to England getting it. Its not like they'd have to be scambling round trying to get transport links in place, and get new staia built., Link to comment

The fact that liverpool was building a new stadium and white hart lane would be getting redeveloped. Either way I see no problem with them getting the world cup. All this giving it to random places due to them being on a certain continent is a joke. At least the stadiums that are being talked about getting built or redeveloped will be used after the event. Jaws
Warner, a member of the world football body’s executive committee since 1983, added: “It will be Italy, Spain, or even France who will get the World Cup if it goes to Europe. France?? Somehow i doubt a country who only just hosted the damn thing 11 years ago will be given it again so soon. Spain are a good shout. They haven't hosted a major tournament since 1982. England are probably in the best position to host a tournament though. Plenty stadia, transport links etc in place. When you think about they must have about 20 stadiums in place they could use. paulkaneatemyhamster
Englands major problem is the one stadium per city rule only 1 city can have 2 venues you need at least 8 stadiums Wembley Emeriates Old Trafford Anfield stand out St James' Park Villa Park need a bit of work err ... leeds ? Sunderland ? Southampton ? souless grounds, and in leeds case seen much better days. Can't see 2 NE stadiums either. Link to comment

Coopy100
City of Manchester Stadium (or whatever it's called) surely? Hillsborough?Do they not need to be over 40'000 seater as well? Nae sure far I heard that but for some reason think I have heard it. EDIT: Just had a look and that leaves 10 stadiums but these are situated 2 in manchester, 2 in liverpool, 3 in london, 1 in newcastle, sunderland and birmingham. Link to comment

Hillsborurgh needs a lot of work if they want Eastlands, they'll have to drop old trafford. pretty sure it's 40,000 for World cups and 30-35000 for European championships. plus needs press, facillities and infrastructure in every city. Coopy100
Just having a look about seems all stadiums that have been used recentley have had a capacity of at least 40,000 so reckon it will be this or they would have been built cheaper and smaller for somewhere like south africa. Link to comment
Jaws
Found a list of capacities of football grounds in England. Elland Road and Hillsborough are just under 40k. Surely the Stadium of Light would be used. Fantastic stadium. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Engli...dia_by_capacity Link to comment

Fantastic stadium. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Engli...dia_by_capacityVisited it recentley to see Sunderland V Everton when on a stag do and I must admit I though it was a cracking stadium as well with good transport to and from what with the metro meaning you can stay in Newcastle and still get to it with minimum fuss. Even if they do use 2 in London then they are still struggling for their 8 stadiums over 40,000. Looks like major investment would need to be made maybe in southamptons stadium or in nottingham to bring these stadium up to scratch to host the world cup. Link to comment
