Flares In Football - For Or Against?

Recommended Posts

there would be a lot of changes needed. no allocated seating unless you expect a full house for a start, standing area would be good and cheaper tickets. Less fitba on the TV is another way forward IMO

Changing the mindset of the youth of today, they want to hang about outside drinking carry outs, sitting in houses playing on their pc's, spending all their cash on a car, spending all their cash on clothes and music.

Abroad a lot of youngsters get into the 'Ultra' culture and spend most of their time in that group even away from the game, making flags, designing merchandise, stickering about the city, saving all their cash to follow their team, buying flares and smokes etc, etc!

Will never happen over here, also tend to think the better Ultra mobs are from cities where there isn't much else to do for the young kids and they don't have an endless flow of cash from their parents, where kids are more streetwise of you like.

just to be clear I'm not really looking for younger fans to be doing any of the above but I'd like to see a return of some more passion in our grounds. When I started to go I couldn't to get back but so many contributing factors mean kids would rather do something else nowadays and who can blame them considering how boring and expensive it is to go.

I know what you mean, both my daughters have no interest in going to watch the Dons anymore. The eldest will go to the odd big game but would rather sit in the pub and watch the EPL!!

The youngest get's bored and the weather isn't really all that great for her either most games

how long did the germans take to go from kutten types to pretty much a full blown ultra scene as good as anything in europe ? certainly a lot better there than it is in italy these days.

suppose that took about two decades all told, then again they had a headstart because they were already into the big flags and stuff.

Ultra group at my club is around 7 years old I believe. As good as anything you'll see.

Doesn't take long, but it here it's all co-ordinated from folk around the age of 15-25. They live and breathe the scene, and the fans at the club buy tonnes of merchandise.

I go to the odd big game but I am back playing football again. I'd simply rather do that now than go to games. Theres so many reason for the downfall of the whole of the scottish game and the poor atmosphere at pittodrie and other grounds and we'd be here all day. I'd just love to know what plans there are to improve everything

I agree, and i'm pretty sure the guys responsible also regret the way things ended with their group, some people love the European type atmospheres in the grounds, some don't.

To be honest i don't think we'll ever have that type of scenes in our stadiums, not just becuase the law dictates but also the mentality of the British supporter, totally different and will never catch on here due to many things.

Time may very well heal the rift but as you agreed last week the chanting towards GR won't do anythign to make things better.

Seems to me that in Germany they aim their football at the working class in every way but mainly pricing whereas in this country it is aimed now at middle and upper class with view of fleecing every penny out of fans.

I agree with ya, but the way I see it that part of the problem here is extortionate admission prices........they are pricing the normal fan out of going to games. Look at today, how many fans will decide tonight to go pay

A togetherness coming from top to bottom of the club and the fans is a must and for that the ball is well and truely in the clubs court for that and they don't seem at all interested, even the so called fans rep on the board.

get rid of that and it would be a start to improving atmosphere at games in this country, nobody will even give a f**k about flares

I've never ever gone to the seat it says on my ticket. In fact I thought the situation was acknowledged by everyone who goes to more than one game a season. If someone comes along and tells me I'm sitting in 'their' seat I assume they are of the one game a season clueless category. There's a radius of 800 f**king free seats between me and the next person and you want this one?
