Site Sponsor RTYD Posted February 16, 2011 Site Sponsor Share Posted February 16, 2011 In my time watching the Dons I have witnessed the truly great to the downright awful. Some of them have only played a handful of games (Howard and Gordon Marshall) so don't need to be categorised along with what I would class as the regulars. In the great category, I have been privilged to see two: Jim Leighton and Theo Snelders. Jim shaves it for me, but I can understand other points of view. In the very good category I would put only Bobby Clark. Peter Kjaer could have been here but he didn't play enough games for us. That would be disrespectful of Bobby. Under good I would put the likes of Ernie McGarr and Bryan Gunn. I could say Tubby Ogston as well but that would be based on anecdotal evidence from my Da as I cannot remember him. Under the category of decidely average and therefore we should be looking to replace him would be Andy Geoghan, David Preece, Jamie Langfield, Nicky Walker, Ally McLean, John Gardiner, Ryan Esson and Michael Watt. Who is the best in this category? Who gives a f.uck? None of them were good enough for my team. Link to comment
Stoneybloke
I tend to disagree about Ogston. Not one of the true greats and Turnbull replaced him with Bobby Clark fairly quickly. Leighton and Clark were outstanding keepers in their time. Link to comment
Crossbow
My honest opinion on goalkeepers is go for Cammy Bell......or Leyton Orients keeper, Jamie Jones - he's a tremendous talent and gets rave reviews down in England.... Could we afford either? This is certainly the one area of the team where splashing the cash brings sustained reward. This MUST be an area CB and AK are looking at. Link to comment

No mention of greatness at all. Link to comment

Start at the back and build out. Link to comment
