The result illustrated once again how Aberdeen's performances over the years have become so erratic and unpredictable. After the Killie game I half expected the same team to perform in a similar fashion and win by a margin of a few goals once again. But no, it was back to normal and the reasons for this are probably quite complex.

Was the result on Saturday a bit of a freak and Kilmarnock were hopeless on the day?

Do our players not like playing at home on a Tuesday night?

Are Hamilton getting desperate, and were just trying too hard?

Whatever it is, I suppose we should be used to it by now, but there's always hope that we can be more consistent and string some results together. Otherwise this talk of the top 6 is just unfounded optimism.

Away from maguire for a moment...

Did it look like we missed Hartley and what difference did it make when he came on?

Young didn't play as well as he did on Saturday, which was a pity as it would have been good competition for our Captain.

Hartley brings an urgency to the team which is often lacking. Young sometimes applies it.

In terms of application though if we had Young's application married to Maguire's ability, we'd have a decent player. Bebo runs about a lot but there is something missing.

I use idiot blocker for Rocket, it works wonders - frustrating as hell when folk quote him though, as that way I have to read the pish he's saying.

I've only tried to idiot block one person and that was LS but you weren't allowed to block admin.

Blocking this person wouldn't help as they'd still troll/post pish in threads and it'll go off course.

This person is of use in other sections of the site.

Brown had a wee dig at Maguire on Redtv after the match. Well I think it was anyway.

Said that they've been trying to work on Maguires finishing. Telling him to try and pass/place the ball into the net , rather than shoot it into the net. Treat the net as a team-mate, and also told him to watch Arshavin's goal against Barca.

But when it mattered in the game the decision making and composure went right out the window.

Maguire has a long way to go.

foster14 agreed - in sorts - with me, gonna ask for him to be banned too?

In sorts indeed. I do agree on the attitude thing but at his level he needs to adapt it. There is nothing wrong in being confident in your own ability, but if you aren't matching it with the goods, you have to take a step back and act differently. I have seen in flashes this season that he has something to offer, something that will be of great benefit to us over the next few years if he stays. He needs to work hard in training though to meet his potential and listen to the coaches or he won't make it. He cannot act like Ronaldo or similar.

Last night I saw the desire and willingness to play football well and for a considerable period in the match he executed it well. As soon as he missed that first chance that was on a plate for him though, he moved away from the team player he had been for the rest of the match to go on a mission of trying to rectify that error, which in the end compounded it. Luckily we did not concede or a large part of the blame for the defeat would lie at Maguire's door.

yep, hes a young player and still needs to learn

therefore he needs support

I'd say the majority on here who criticise him do in line with their general opinion on how he is doing on the pitch, which is fair game. They'd wish him to do well and support him.

There are maybe one or two who don't, but they haven't contributed to this thread so far...

really?

REALLY?

so why does crap still get brought up about him "talking down to office staff" then?

who the hell cares?!

hes a footballer, he should be judged on the pitch!

Attitude off the pitch may not reflect it on the pitch. Anyway, your last comment on Maguire and Considine has me over and out for this thread...

Cards on the table.

If maguire stays i will be devastated, he signafies everything that has gone wrong with the club in the past two seasons, i dont like him, i dont like his attitude, and i dont think he is commited to AFC.

I will be having many beers to celebrate when he f**ks off.

I hope he scores hundreds and hundreds of goals from now till the end of the season, every goal he scores means there is less chance of him staying.

I just hope no scouts have been watching him lately.

For the love of f**k that is drivel in it's purest form.

You don't like him? What's that got to do with the price of fish?

What an irrelevant, pointless rant.

I agree with Stoney.

Why do we need good players? All they do is signify everything bad about AFC and life itself. In fact why do we need players at all? I don't like any of their attitudes, until they change them to an attitude to my liking they can all score as many goals as they want, and I hope they do, and scouts flock to see them, just so they can f**koff to somewhere else and take their poor attitudes with them, and don't let the door hit their high and mighty arses on the way out.

I'll be having many beers to celebrate the demise of the whole team, and their stinking attitude problems. The sooner we remove skill from the equation the better.

We need poor players, with good attitudes, these international class players have disappeared up their own arses.

In what way exactly. Give examples.

By the by. Maguire is worth a lot more to Aberdeen with a contract than without. If however you'd rather see Aberdeen lose out on a significant transfer fee next summer just to satisfy your hatred for a young wide boy then you are extremely childish. In fact I'd go as far as to say your attitude is exactly as you seem to think Maguire's is.

Its that or he knocked back your homosexual advances?

not really

maguire is - while younger in years also - a lot more immature than considine is

maguire is still like the best player in the playground, thats why hs going to take longer to learn

considine is as boring as they come and doesnt have the luxury of that excuse, hes just plain sh*te

You just don't see it Frankie do you?

I'll get the mask at the weekend and send it down to you.

Maguire done little to suggest anyone will come in and pay transfer fee for him. His stock was highest in January but no enquiries at all. Since then his form dipped again.

Personally i would be inclined to take the money we can get for him in the summer and run.

I find all this criticism of Maguire hard to believe.

He's done very well this season, particularly since the inept McGhee & Leitch left.

Picking on him because he disna play well on a pishy Feb night against Hamilton, on a poor pitch, is madness.

Look at the bigger picture, he's improving all the time, and is an asset to the football club.

An international in our midst, and all some seem able to do is rip into him and hope he leaves

I don't get it either. I always wonder if I have some blind spot with him, but given Brown, who all seem to agree is a wise manager and doing well with us, seems to rate him highly and played him pretty much every available minute since he got here, I come to the view that I don't have a blind spot on it...

Levein and Stark also rate him very highly.

The kind of folk who know what they're talking about on football matters.

Rather than the baseless nonsense poured from the bilious mouths of some of our rabid 'supporters' when he fails to turn it on for the full 90, every single game.

I enjoyed the first half, Hamilton came and defended, we were never going to have an easy game but I was happy with the first half performance, Maguire was clear man of the match, in the second half we as a team were poor, no drive or movement from anyone apart from Maguire who was unluck not to score but had done really well to make the runs to get in for the chances, on another night we could have won 4-0 with Maguire bagging them all.

it was a strange nmatch some have called it quite boring and awful but i liked a lot of it

First half we seemed to hold a lot of control of the game, we seemed very confident, passing the ball well, not in a rush but a build up to goal switching play and generally doing a lot of things right. It was a good game to watch from an aberdeen point of view. The players werent having to work hard as they were making the ball do that and getting hamilton to do the running around

Second half we never picked up that passing (was tiredness a factor? with our run of games) and that slickness was replaced by slackness however we the started to make so good attempts at goal, that was quite pleasing in its self, though we were missing a load of chances what we were doing was making loads to miss. The fact we got maguire into the same poosition 4 times to make the same mistake four times could be a point to criticise however we made that opportunity for him four times in a very short space of time, yes he could have done better but the chances were there

Overall it was one of the more pleasing matches of this season 3 months mind you i have to say i'm starting to ennjoy going to the football again - 5 months ago my enthusiasm for football was dying on its ar$e now im enjoying even a game that was quite nervy later on!

Did anyone try and count the Hamilton fans? I counted 22 in the picture that was in the Evening today. Has there been a worse turn out by an away support in the league at Pittodrie in recent years? Gretna got put into the Main stand for their second league game. Not sure if they had more fans then Hamilton managed or not though.

really two things the club should be doing on nights that are obviosuly going to yield a low crowd

1. Shove the away fans above the tunnel in the Main stand

2. Shut the top deck

Personally I think that there is a strong case for matches against, shall we say, the bottom six for shutting the top deck, and getting more in the main and south stands

Especially if we could get 3 sections on nights against hamilton St J killie st mirren etc

If you want to improve atmosphere instead of spreading fans accross 5 areas lets knock it down to four
