I think its never happening anyways, corners and cards might happen, and Huddersfield might win, but NO WAY is there going to be 2 more goals in the Europa Final - it is absolutely terrible match.

Braga are pish. Porto aren't much better.

7 teams on, 6 wins (presuming Porto win), 1 draw. So close.

Calderplank didn't like Lovell. He was a man with more intelligence in his left earlobe than generations of Calderwoods could gather in their heads.

That's bad management, feeling threatened by one he couldn't control as fully as needs to in order to exert his fat useless authority.

Did the whole fall out between them not start with Lovell supposedly binning one of the younger players in training (might have been Paton) and Sandy Clark taking exception to it? Sure it was but might be wrong.

Either way what a ridiculous thing to do, seeing as though he was our most clinical forward and in the end JC's personal problems with him effectively cost the team in the end imo

I always liked Lovell. Was treated unfairly by calderwood and if i remember despite being relegated to the bench, whenever he did come on managed to score some poachers goals, with a respectable (all things relative) goal/game ratio.

"Too lazy", apparently. Were there not rumours he had a bust up with Sandy Clark?

If true, i like the guy.

That's what i'm led to believe happened, but of course there could have been more to it than that. And "too lazy"?, well i'd rather have a lazy forward who scored goals than Mackie who might work hard but has no end product, but that was a JC effort at the end of the day

Went through Clark's son in training.

what i was alluding to, was the fact that he had made his money already through a very successful "license plate" themed dating agency thing

this would explain why he turned his nose up to leicester and also why he had no heart or desire when playing for us

was a shame, because he and lee could have made a f**king gorgeous strike force

If making your money was a reasonable excuse no c**t in the premiership would ever try.

Opinion seemed to be mixed, although personally speaking the "lazy" excuse is over-used generally and stops us from looking deeper into why some players under perform.

Let's agree to disagree on this one buddy.

i despise the label. no player gets to the elite level by being "lazy". nobody who is good enough to play in the top tier of scottish football can be classed as "work shy". you work your bollocks off day in day out from the time your about 8 and still most players dont make it. i dont think a player makes it into the first team then suddenly takes out a massive cigar and sticks 2 fingers up at the world and decides they are going to take it easy.

laziness is very subjective. folk say kris boyd is lazy. i dont like the guy but hes not f**king lazy. if he was he wouldnt score goals as frequently as he does. so for folk to be saying that lovell was lazy is beyond a joke. darren mackie is far from lazy but hes probably out chasing butterflies most days. id rather have a "lazy" striker like boyd who knows where the net is as opposed to someone who runs all day but is as effective as an underwater fart. its an ignorant comment to make and brings my piss to a boil. lovell was hellishly unlucky with injuries and was always rushed back. its also clear his learning style wasnt conducive with the way calderwood wanted to coach.

i dont think we saw even 50% of the potential lovell had. he scored a couple of stunning goals but didnt fit with the way we tried to play in those days. thats not his fault. if you were to point the finger at someone itd be calderwood for looking at the way dundee played and assumed lovells game could be changed to the way he wanted us to play.

he was hideously underused and mismanaged in his time here and for that, im saddened because he had the potential to be a SPL superstar

No doubt Lovell was a frustrating player. I think if he was signed on a freebie the criticism would be less. The man had all the tools, built like an Olympic sprinter, a cannonball shot and a strikers instinct, for some reason it didnt quite work. Saying that he did do the business v the Huns which some of our lot cannot do, and 23 goals in 88 appearances isnt that bad is it?

If Berbatov also went through a youth player and refused to apologise, I would yes, much in the same way Fergie seems to have?

It's a man's game, sounds like Nicky Clark needed to man the f**k up and not use the playground "I'll get my Dad on you"...but then again, 'Nicky was one of the boys'.
