For Westminster, The City Inn is pretty decent.

Ended up booking the novotel along from Waterloo. Going down for new year so it's ideal for watching the fireworks at midnight and getting the train to the ally pally the next day

As a regular in London toon eh can recommend two cheapish alternatives that are good value.

 

The Ibis right next to Euston is my favourite. 2-3 stops fae everywhere ye want tae go.

 

Otherwise the Premier Inn in Hammersmith. It's 12 stories so if yet get a room up the top, ye get amazing views, which makes the thought that yer helping revive Lenny Henry's career bearable.

I love the premier inn in euston...the staff are always amazing. great for a chain hotel. maybe you could also look at youth hostels. you can often get a private room at one.
