The Open Championship

It's just sheer luck on the day that determines the winners of these competitions, random, like the Grand National, a bit of a lottery.

There's very little skill involved, it's like saying you're brilliant at the roulette machine, when in fact you're a hostage to fortune.

So anyone can win, making the odds a nonsense, and the bookies a fortune as fools try and predict it.

go away

couldn't agree more here FS.

All otherwise pish.

Any of us could win it if the conditions were right.

Golf is a game of pure luck and nothing else, the best players are simply the luckiest ones, which is why the Irish have a fine tradition of gowfing.

you speak plenty sense on fitba.....your thoughts on golf are nonsense, have you been drinking with Roberto?

Jesus man! Tee to green the best all week, FIR 1st. I seen him don his wet weather gear as much as any other player.

Im not taking anything away from his win, but if you listen to his interviews every day (Thurs - Sat) he said he got lucky with the weather. Thats a fact. Conditions were harder in the morning first day and then harder in the afternoon in day 2. Both of which Clarke had the easier side of the draw. Goes without saying that he got the easiest conditions on the Saturday, the course was playing 5 shots easier compared to earlier when he went out.

He wasnt the only player who got lucky with his draw, you obviously have to play well which he did and im delighted he won.

McIlroy acted like a right spoilt brat yesterday. Blamed his poor showing this week on the weather, NOT the fact that he failed to adapt his game to the tough conditions this week. Said he can't wait to get back to USA and 80 degree temperature.

You've got a lot to learn, loon.

What he said was correct though about having a poor draw with how the weather turned out, but your spot on his interview was very poor to say the least.

Don't really follow golf, but this lad certain has a bit of attitude/cockyness about him. Remember hearing an interview with him a while back, where he wrote off the Ryder Cup as "an exhibition tournament"

He changed his viewpoint after playing in it last year. See he split up with his gf before the open and is now rumoured to be seeing caroline Wozaniki (sp)

The boy McIllroy was 'groomed to be a star' from the age of four.

i.e. he's a tit, who thinks the world is made of sugar coated marshmallow, and canna accept it when things go against him.

He's basically a young Colin Montgomerie with that attitude.

he was pretty humble after the masters, which is not monty like, he has a good management team around him, but I suppose your always going to have that wanky attitude towards the press, when they are on yer tits all the time, he plays into their hands, where he needs to think before he opens his gob.

Being born with a silver spoon rammed down your throat canna be easy.

It tends to turn you into a prick. The F1 boys for instance, Coulthard, Hamilton, Button etc - all tools who you would avoid at all costs in the pub.

You'd think his parents could have let him have a childhood, but no, zealous maniacs had him out on the course at 4.

No wonder he f**king wins, I'd be amazed if he didna.
