Theo Snelders

Brilliant keeper and a top bloke too. I always remember speaking to him at the Beach Ballroom not long after the incident with McCoist and wishing him a speedy recovery and he spoke to me for a while and really made my day.

Legend!! :thumbup1:

That's true. Most of you will know this story but I met him last summer when he was over here, was on a night out with Neil Simpson. Talked football and both were happy to pose for pictures with me. Both top blokes.

Yes.

I play in goals, and grew up watching Snelders play for Aberdeen every weekend. Didnt see much of Harper or Strachan apart from re-runs/videos etc. Miller and McLeish didnt really interest me at the time tbh, as like i say, i watched Snelders.

Many's an angst ridden, po-faced loon tried to emulate his spiky hairdo, the man's hair was unflappable, either he was using Safeway Select Hard Gel, which did exactly as it said on the tin, but also dry froze your skull, or, as I suspect, the big dutchman was born with a head like a pre-combined field, if he wisna good at football I'm sure Vidal Sassoon would have taken him on.

Awesomely talented for the first three years after he joined us, I was awestruck, that this relatively unknown Dutchman, no foreign fitba coverage then, was BETTER than Jim Leighton, which I thought impossible prior to his arrival.

Unless you bought World Soccer you knew very little of other leagues and their teams, they were all written off as machines (Germans) dirty dishonest cheats (Spanish & Italian) all nice touches, pish if you get stuck in (Dutch & French) and mysterious, drug taking, emotionless robots, untrustworthy to the core (East Germany eastward). No f**king internet either young chiels, coincidentally the strongest period historically for the Scottish game. Also, even more coincidentally, a period when Rangers and Celtic were marginalised, because our own and United's manager knew the score and openly stood up to their bullying mind games,

He was superb this day - can only dream of a keeper of this standard nowadays.

I remember watching Theo's warm up's - would put any AFC player of today to shame. Him and Drew Jarvie would be out before anyone warming up, same routine every game.

i wish i was old enough to appreciate how magic that was. if we won the cup in simular circumstances, this year i don't think anyone would see me for a year. in fact i would donate my left testicle to homosexual research to see such a thing.

Is that research into homosexuality, or more general research conducted by homosexual scientists?
