OddJob
watching the game now - keeper was poor at both. Fosters miss is a disgrace. Vernon - looks so unfit and slow!Just saw it on Sportscene, aye ok it's a bad miss, but what i want to know is why is our fullback the only one reacting to the possibility of the shot being spilt or rebounding out? Surely our midfield are the ones to react to this? Link to comment
Ke1t
so fooking frustating coming away with fook all today :banghead: :banghead: bloody well sick of it,2nd bottom of the league away to hibs next, could well be bottom by this time in 2wks brown better have 1 or 2 aces up his sleeve b4 the windy slams shut on wed This is it... we've a team that can win games. It's not a team of gutless, unprofessional, workshy b*stards like we've had the last 2 seasons... these guys actually put in a shift. And, by SPL standards, they're not terrible. But, once again, without a quality finisher and someone with guile to create those chances, we're going to struggle yet again. It's going to take minimal extra outlay.. I won't even call it 'investment' because that's not something Aberdeen does... just a couple more players to bring our squad up to the bare minimum and we'll finish top six. That might not be exactly an orgasmic thought, but given the last few years a solid top six team would be like the second coming of Jesus f**king Christ. I have absolutely no faith that Milne will release the funds needed to bring us up to bare minimum though, So that's that then. Link to comment
Stoneybloke
I think the biggest revelation in the post match interview is that CB has a computer!!! Wonder if it's actually his or his great grandsons and he just stands over his shoulder peering in wonder. It will be in his office at Pittodrie and a secretary will use it for him. He has better and more urgent things to do. Link to comment

rossafc92
Can't believe we didn't win this one never mind come away empty handed. Anyway... Gonzalez - wasn't really troubled this afternoon to be fair. Thought he was a bit indecisive at goal one and it's an absolute howler for goal two. I like the fact he likes to play the ball out quickly and his kicking is fairly accurate. However the howler at the end drops his match rating for me. 5/10 McArdle - Said it a million times before and everyone knows it, he is never in a million years a right back. However Rangers rarely troubled down his side today which was lucky and he actually contributed well at times in attack. Still though, some poor passing throughout the game. 5/10 Mawene - Nothing significant to note but thought he kept things neat and tidy at the back, maybe too high up for their first goal. Tried to play it about too much at times at the back in the first half. 6/10 Considine - Won most of the battles in the air and had a fairly solid game in my opinion. Biggest mistake was when he allowed one of their players in for a header from a corner in the first half. 6/10 Foster - Shocking miss. Unbelievable actually. However I thought he had a decent game, burst down the wing a fair bit, just wish he had more confidence in his left foot. I didn't appreciate the laughing and joking he was having with Lafferty during the game though and when he clapped the Rangers fans above the tunnel at the end of the game. Lack of professionalism from an AFC captain, whether he played for them last season or not. Hope Brown picked up on this and gives him a telling off. 6/10 Jack - Didn't make much of an impact. He's got the feet to play out wide but he's slower than a week in Dundee. Quite rightly hooked at half time. 3/10 Osbourne - Man of the match for me. He's really growing on me. Big and strong and it was great to see him out-muscling them in the middle and he made some good short passes too. Nice balls out to Pawlett when he came on too. 8/10 Milsom - A good performance from him and it's obvious that he's been told to get forward more. Unlucky with some of his forward passes. 7/10 Fyvie - A much better performance from him this week. Thought he was poor against Hearts and Inverness but linked up well with Osbourne, Arnason and Milsom. A nice strike in the second half too. Nice to see him turning some of the Rangers players too. Need more performances like this from him. 7/10 Arnason - Definitely one of our better players. Very calm and composed on the ball and likes to keep it on the deck. Unlucky with the strike from the free kick in the second hald, just a few inches to the right and it would have gone in. 7/10 Vernon - Struggled up front on his own and shat himself when he was one on one at the start of the second half, should have just done what he did against Inverness last week. 6/10 Subs: Pawlett - Made a big difference in the second half. Gave Broadfoot a lot of trouble on the outside and cutting inside too. Could have been a different result if he'd been on from the start. 6/10 Magennis - Some good bursts of pace against the Rangers defence and he played a lovely ball across goal just after coming on, if only he'd held on a couple of seconds for Chalali and co to get in to position. 3/10 Chalali - Didn't make much of an impact, but seems keen to keep the ball on the deck and use his feet which is promising if we can continue the good passing between Milsom, Osbourne, Arsnason and Fyvie. 2/10 Oh, I was stood right next to those manky so called human beings today and it's quite embarrassing watching grown men act like children. I know it's banter and all but if only they could see themselves. Link to comment

I agree we didn't show it in the first half, but I think the players did show bottle in the 2nd half, Vernon missed because of his heavy touch round McGregor, and Foster was 3 inches away from scoring, I don't think it was lack of bottle, the midfield were looking for the ball at all times, and I thought they played in the 2nd half like they thought they would get a goal. From what I saw and heard the midfield ran the show for most of the second half, so much so that Rangers had to put an extra man in there to contain us. putting 2 upfront doesn't always mean we have more chance of scoring Link to comment

He would put in a much better shift as he holds the ball up well and his strength can be an asset but his finishing is pish. we have 3 main strikers who have some big flaws in their game and I don't think it would have made too much difference which one was played yesterday Link to comment
Crossbow
I think it was Brown's lack of bottle that was the problem.Opting for a lone striker who just doesn't cope in that role did not help. I think that is basically it - when I saw the formation I knew we would never win; damage limitation was what it was about. We didn't get hammered, had a few chances "could've, should've" but lacking guile in the starting formation was basically asking the huns to attack us knowing there was no risk in response. When we finally put on Pawlett we were already chasing the game. Bad keeper mistake for the second, it would take a few more before Clangers looks like a good option. Losing to the huns is never acceptable - it was merely not too embarassing but with no real hope of anything beyond that. An Alex Smith style though without that quality of squad. As a squad we are still light in too many roles to be a decent team. We need width, a playmaker/striker (though maybe that's supposed to be Chalali) - and a full back (not a stand-in). Without pace and width we will be picked off time and again and by teams poorer than the huns. Link to comment

The way Magennis played the last two games even the celtic game i cant believe he didnt start. Same here. He would have been ideal to run at the hun defence and Vernon could have picked on scraps. Ernie McCracken
Against Caley Vernon nicks the ball hits it early and scores. Against the Hun in a similar situation he keeps on running!! WHY, WHY WHY! What difference does it make that its rangers instead of Caley? The back of the net is in the same place!!! Foster Gonzalez - both goals Craig sort out the mentality, because if you don't then it won't matter how well they play, they'll just continue to miss chances, let in "sloppy" goals and be gallant losers! nazrat
Not a fan of Gonnzo, don't think he's any better than Langfield if I'm being perfectly honest (fuse is lit, tin hat is on!) and I'd like to see Brown given a chance. After the second goal I'd agree. Although there was a hint of the ball making a big swerve in mid air that seemed to fox him. Thought Foster's miss was unfortunate, I think at the pace he was coming in, it could have gone anywhere just a shame it wasn't the back of the net! Link to comment
Jazzer_Bett
As ussual, leaving my comments until Monday so the dust has settled. Great performance from us from where i was standing, which was right at the top of the corner with both my arms stetched out and my middle fingers up to either side-! For me our defence did ok (save the fact the brilliant Ozzy left his man in Davis and let him run right through us for their opener), but its our lack of goals that are hampering us rather than any conceded - if that make sense. If we can take the lead then the match is a different story, the longer Aberdeen play at 0v0 the more it looks like we will be punished for it. In short, once the goals come we will be in great shape - Foster was unlucky with his effort and McGregor did well for Vernons chance, and made a wonder save before it. The most important thing for me was to see a continuation of the TEAM performances of late and this one bettered the spells at Tynecastle and the first half vs Caley. The real reason for this progress is a settled midfield 2 - what a partnership we have in Ozzy and Arni-! Other notable points for me were; Pawlly has to play on the right instead of Jack - offers more of a threatHappy for Josh to remain as an impact sub, its a great optionFraser can play as a second striker if need be and offers more centrallyFolly for right back, as McArdle is a disaster in that positionVernon is getting there with his fitness and once he is fully match sharp he will scoreOnly Glimpeses of Chalali, but his centre of gravity and running style looks similar to Maguire - lets see if he can finish Hibs away next in a few weeks - they are rotten and our record at Easter Road is good. I expect a big Dons support too. Link to comment
