I believe thats the whole point in this discussion?

to see if i actually am whats "manly" now as opposed to stereotypes such as JW and CE

no. you are definitley not a manly modern man.

i know this for a fact, cause you wear vests.

old cowboys and john mclaine wore vests but that was in the old days.

vests are not manly now.

they tend to be worns by gays.

and gays arent manly.

erm, Tony Soprano wears vests?

and again, you're forgetting you dont speak for everyone...this is what the discussion forums all about

surely someone openly admitting if another guys attractive, or feeling comfortable wearing something others would find "gay", is TRUE manliness?

essentially, it all boils down to self confidence and theres nothing more unattractive than jealousy

couldnt agree more millerts - jealousy is for the weak.

tony s, you say? look what happened to him.

and that was 10 years ago. the old days.

Kelt previously provided a "what can you do check list" that might be appropriate in determining manliness.

Could you;

Build a fire

Build a temporary or permanent shelter

Hunt

Fish

Identify edible food

Fight a bear and live

Build a signal fire recognised as the international sign for 'Help' (which isn't just a flaming bonfire a'la Castaway)

Manufacture water in a desert

Survive in subzero temperatures

Navigate your way by land or sea to a populated area

skin an animal properly

All of those must figure in an assessment, mustn't they?

well, no

simple reason being - we dont NEED to do that anymore

if you havent evolved enough, youre not a real man

Manliness by it's very definition is having qualities traditionally attributed to a man and what can be more traditional than the ability to clothe, feed, heat and house yourself without reliance on others and therefore this must, I would argue, be significant when discussing manliness.

Are there not a lot of items on that list that have a bigger bearing on manliness than the confidence to wear clothing that has become associated with one section of society whilst not being a part of that section, a la wearing a vest?

MT,

You have selected Sam Worthington as your Manliness example, a man who spent years on what he describes as "walkabout" in Australia before becoming a bricklayer and who once sold all his possessions and lived out of his car.

I think we can assume he can tick off a few of Kelt's list no bother, are you saying these skills have not had an influence on his persona and his "manliness"?

millertime,

this is a serious question.

you seem a bit obsessed about the famous guy sam.

i presume he is a movie star or soemthing.

anyway, if the chance arose would you have a sexual encounter with him?

i dont mean are you gay, cause you've said your not.

but would you have sex with him if, in a fantasy world, you met him?

i'd take one for the team, and do it on his behalf. :sheepdance:
