Saw this on the news and in the paper this morning, total over reaction from many, especially from the NSPCC and that fud jeremy Hunt, they don't understand it at all and are jumping the gun here by slamming it and calling it "barbaric", absolute morons in my opinion and the fights are fine, if I had a son i'd rather he was doing that than hanging on a street getting up to no good.

There is so much wrong with that that's it's very worthy of discussion.

It's mental on an epic proportion.

One stage up from illegal dog or cock fighting.

Morons.

No thanks.

Kids that age shouldn't be doing that for entertainment purposes.

By all means learn how to defend yourself and maybe take up a non combat martial art but how old were they?

In front of an audience. In a cage.

Have you got kids by any chance?

You have got to be taking the piss? it is nothing like that, the kids are trained, the ref is highly experienced and trained too and with no striking allowed it is pretty fair and not likely to get out of hand.

bit early for them to be in a cage though mini wouldn't you agree? don't think they are old enough to be hanging about on street corners.

Not at all, in Thailand, kids as young as 8 are fighting properly at full thai rules, which include knee strikes to the face, elbows, kicks and punches.

The setting is wrong, totally agree. But strip it down a bit, and it's no different to a kids judo tournament in a school hall

aye asia, the worst of the worst, the most horrible shower of barbaric idiots on the planet. do you think paying to watch an 8 year old knee another 8 old in the face then mount and repeatedly punch him is acceptable?

I was fighting in front of crowds at that age down the beach ballroom. Won a few comps when I was between 8 and 12

Its submission moves, not full on smack the shite out of each other.

Thai doesn't work like that, no ground and pound, it's all stand up, MMA at that age is fine in my opinion as it's almost totally safe and it's a good way for the kids to learn something aswell as keep out of trouble.

Cheesepipes, by 16, if they are any good they'll been in to the 100 mark for fights.

Have to agree.

The setting is all-important and this appears to be very exploitative.

I notice the Telegraph article talks about UFC and what big business it is.

I really don't understand why anyone would want to watch two almost naked men rolling around the floor in a clinch. Repeatedly.

Actually, I can :gay:

Go and explain that bit to me please because I really cant see what all the fuss is about. :dontknow:

Why is it any different to a Dojo or boxing ring?

If these kids were in the back garden they'd have the trampoline out of its cage net surround thing and would be play fighting, untrained and probably hurting each other quite badly. Of course though that would be OK because their parents wouldnt be there. Stick it in a hall, have their friends there and all of a sudden it becomes some mass of outrage.

I'd love to batter the shit out of Jeremy Vine in a cage-fight, pompous cunt he is, getting all up himself about a fight, of course at Eton none of that happened so busy were they with other, shall we say, 'physical activities'.

It makes my blood boil when folk say this is wrong. That's what kids do FFS!

It's in Preston, for one thing.

I hated the Ordinary Boys.

Kids fight all the time. Adults paying to go and watch, that's the disturbing bit.

While we're at the then we should just cancel the youth commonwealth games and the youth olympics as well then eh? Kids go there to fight, boxing, judo, karate and adults pay for entry.

What else can we ban while we're looking for ways to express mock outrage?
