LIVERPOOL'S BEATLES STORY TAKES HIDDEN GALLERY TO NEW YORK CITY Liverpool's award-winning Beatles Story attraction has arranged for The Beatles: Hidden Gallery exhibition to take up an auspicious residency in New York City - at the world famous Carnegie Hall where The Beatles played their third American concert on February 12th 1964.

The exhibition is part of Beatles Story's ongoing campaign to promote Liverpool's cultural offer to a wider US audience and follows on from successful cultural events and exhibitions in both San Francisco and Memphis.

The exhibition launched on Saturday 8th October and features over thirty recently-discovered candid images of the seminal rock group, photographed in 1963 and 1964 by British photographer and award-winning cinematographer Paul Berriff. The intimate photographs showcase the young band on the cusp of superstardom, just prior to the world-wide eruption of Beatlemania. The photographs made their world debut at Beatles Story, Pier Head, Liverpool where they wowed hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city.

The exhibition will be open to the public for free viewing on four consecutive Saturdays in November and December from 10:30 am-12:30 pm Open gallery hours will take place on Saturday, November 26; Saturday, December 3; Saturday, December 10; and Saturday, December 17. Admission is free, with tickets available at the Carnegie Hall Box Office beginning at 10:00 am each Saturday. For more information about Carnegie Hall, visit www.carnegiehall.org

Ask Andrew. :)

Fae Fife ye ken , Dunfermline.

Famous for being the Bill Gates of his era and giving it all away.

As early as 1868, at age 33, he drafted a memo to himself.

He wrote: "...The amassing of wealth is one of the worse species of idolatry. No idol more debasing than the worship of money."

In order to avoid degrading himself, he wrote in the same memo he would retire at age 35 to pursue the practice of philanthropic giving for:

"...the man who dies thus rich dies disgraced."

Before his death on 11 August 1919, Mr. Carnegie had donated $350,695,654 (approximately $4.3 billion, adjusted to 2005 figures) for various causes. The 'Andrew Carnegie Dictum' illustrates Carnegie's generous nature:

  • To spend the first third of one's life getting all the education one can.
  • To spend the next third making all the money one can.
  • To spend the last third giving it all away for worthwhile causes.

Andrew Carnegie was involved in philanthropist causes, but he kept himself away from religious circles.

He wanted to be identified by the world as a 'positivist'.

He was highly influenced in public life by John Bright.

Scotland's # 1
