Jazzer_Bett
Absolutely, the referendum was a daft idea and all it has served to do is give folk like Shepherd a platform for his nonsensical rants. Hopefully the intelligent citizens of Aberdeen will ignore his propaganda. I think there is a recorded debate on Radio Scotland this week in which the panel will consist of Sir Ian Wood and Shepherd, which should be a bloodbath, well worth a listen. Give Shepherd enough rope, he'll rant on whilst Wood - like him or loathe him - is experienced in this kind of thing. I see Milney has popped up in the P+J today as well, against Jim Milne (no relation presumebly!)who has emerged as a financial backer of Shepherds group. Ironic given that the Balmoral group are a long term sponsor at AFC...... Link to comment

Dandyesque
Craig Brown throwing weight in favour of the project today He could hardly come out against his boss, could he. I have to say I'm amazed by the number of football managers getting involved in the debate. Do they teach City Planning at Largs now? Link to comment
Jazzer_Bett
Craig Brown throwing weight in favour of the project today Where you see this? Dandyesque therein lies the problem - Sir Ian Wood is plainly disliked, so thats a personal thing - Shepherd and his crew don't like the multi millionaire oil rich power broker. So much so they are willing to pass up this chance of a lifetime for the city of Aberdeen - it won't come again. Link to comment

I think when rich people see the chance to invest in something that will make them even richer in the long term, they are generally going to give it a go. Particularly when they realise they don't have to go down normal avenue such as buying the land or putting in all the money themselves.... Link to comment

spamspamspam
I'm truly undecided... not because I want to keep UTG etc but because I'm unsure that I want the web. Don't think I like it that much TBH. Think I'll have to have a proper look into it all again Link to comment
daytripping
I voted for the new gardens, lived in Aberdeen for 43 years and have never set foot once in the old gardens. Street level with cafes, ice rinks etc will be great. Link to comment

dervish
You know what would be better? To just freeze dry everything so it never chances and no rich pricks can contribute to ruin our state of a beautiful city center. Place is a shit hole with trains and a motorway running through it not a garden. Oh aye but save the 200 year old trees. Link to comment
jassb
I don't care. Can I auction my vote on eBay? Thinking about it, I have 3 votes since my folks are on holiday and told me how they wanted me to vote for them. Never realised they trusted me so much as they have quite strong feelings towards No. But they are old and might not even be around to see the new gardens if it goes ahead anyway. Link to comment
daytripping
If we don't go for it then Union street dies, that's the hard fact. Drug den or new gardens.........mmhhh, tough one. Link to comment

daytripping
Just listened to the debate; not one anti new gardens person spoke with an Aberdeen accent. I'm glad I didn't go, I'd have punched Mike Shepherd, what a wanker. Bet he's a leftie socialist that lives in a big paid for house. Link to comment

muttondressedaslamb
Read this today:An Aberdeen Council official is interviewed in the P&J today about the £70 million loan the Council are being asked to take out to pay for half of Sir Ian Wood's project. It is supposed to be paid back by new business rates created as a direct result od building the scheme. "What happens if the expected business rates do not materialise? "There would be insufficient income to repay the loan capital and interest and the council would need to cover the shortfall." Link to comment

Jonty
I just voted for the city garden via the web. Other than junkies and gays I don't know who esingle using the gardens on the 350 odd days of the year that it isn't sunny? Mind you it used to be a good place to go when I was about 14 and me and my pals needed somewhere quiet to go and down some White Lightning afore heading to the under 18's disco at Zigzags or Eagles. Don't ever rememb seeing Debra fuckin Storr or Mike Shepherd down there then. Link to comment
granite sheep
I voted No. Not cos I'm a tree hugger or anything- I believe the gardens DO need done up, and the Union Bridge, even though it's a part of our heritage, needs covered up due to all the suicide attempts in its history. Also the Granite Web design is unremittingly shit, I'd have said yes to the Winter Garden, but going for a set of horrible sterile looking flyovers and lots of trees.........NIT! Link to comment
