I was in town early today today so i decided to go to union terrace gardens to look for this magical green space in the heart of the city that people speak of because my memories of Aberdeen don't include such a place.

So i'm on union street and i looked down on the gardens from union street bridge and all i could see was a railway line, a dual carriageway and some trees. No change there then. I then proceeded to go onto union terrace and head down to the gardens. While walking down the steps the first thing that struck me was the reek of piss, just like i remembered i thought. When i reached the bottom of the steps there was what appeared to be a group of homeless folk or alkies or junkies fighting over a fag packet that i think one of them must have found. That was as far as i went . The place is a hole and has been for years. The folk trying to save it obviously don't go there very often. I moved out to the shire a couple of years ago so i don't get a vote but if i did it would be a definite YES.

Some of the career protesting coffee shop revolutionaries associated with the No vote need to enter the real world.

And get a job as a barista in the coffeeshop in one of the new underpasses?

What exactly is a "career protesting coffee shop revolutionary"?

Is it just someone who doesn't agree with you?

There are plenty of people in favour of doing something with the gardens - just that not everybody thinks it worth spunking the budget of two Scottish Parliaments on. And does anyone remember how that particular construction project went? I have far less faith in the combined talents of the City Council than those that were responsible for that catastrophic overspend - or the trams, for that matter.

Your post makes no sense at all.

It makes plenty of sense.

Aberdonians are drowned out by a vocal minority of people, the career protesting coffee shop revolutionaries. Then you have the people not even in the city or who aren't from here trying to tell the people of Aberdeen how they should vote. Nimby by proxy.

I'm just nae sure fit ti dee min. I like the gardens but admittedly I never use them. But Aberdeen is an absolute dump just now. The whole merchant quarter pish was a step in the right direction though, maybe this can help us salvage union street. I'll always love Aberdeen but I think I see it through rose tinted glasses

Read it again. He is saying he would be ashamed to be Aberdonian due to the actions of non-Aberdonians.

That's equivalent to me saying I'm ashamed to be Scottish due to Chinese human rights abuse.

It makes no sense.

It did make sense in my head.

I meant if the people of aberdeen voted no i'd be ashamed to call myself an aberdonian as every bit of progress this city tries to make is rejected.

Too many people trying to live in the past

I just fear the NO BRIGADE are more stubborn and more likely to vote in masses

Do you define "british" similarly to Nick Griffin?

Or are settlers Aberdonians too? You sound confused.

Now that makes no sense.

If someone is born in Aberdeen, then they are clearly Aberdonian, and if they are from elsewhere then they are not.

Try fitting the content of more than one post in your head at the same time and you might work it out.

The whole settler v Aberdonian thing is a crock of shit anyway. If you're going to have to see the place, put up with the inevitable traffic nightmare and then more than likely pay for it through increased council tax for years to come, then I think you are entitled to your say, whether you are English, Welsh or Nigerian.

At least as entitled as someone from Echt anyway....

At least as entitled? So someone not from the area who lives in Aberdeen would possibly be entitled to having more say in local affairs than someone from the area living in Aberdeen? Astonishing.

I am perfectly aware of the context, hence why I was ridiculing your incorrect analogy.

Griffin would claim someone wasn't British whose skin was the wrong colour regardless of them having been born in Britain - your point; which is NOT the same as someone not born in Aberdeen trying to claim they were Aberdonian.

So please don't try rubbishing someones opinion on the back some pathetic pseudo racist pish.

UTG needs work but nae 150mil worth o work.

Peacock Arts thing would of been perfect at a fraction of the cost.

Big business gets involved and things get silly.

Don't want "our" land sold off to some big shot.

Granite Web looks like Mounthoolie(sp) roundabout.

No thanks.

Peacocks plans looked more like a Tellytubby village. Awful.

And who are Peacocks Arts anyway that they deserve a prime piece of land in the centre of our city? Who on here can honestly say that they have visited Peacocks current premises (Castlegate I think?) or even what type of art they display in their gallaries?

We already have a large Art Gallery on School Hill - whats the point building another one across the road?

I've been to the Peacock gallery quite a few times. Nice place, good exhibitions.

Just dont see why these people need to build a huge new premises in the middle of the best bit land left in the city centre - didn't realise there were that many contemporary art enthusiasts in Aberdeen? Their project was also mainly publicly funded, and worked on the assumption they were given the land.

Heres whats on there today btw; -

"YOUR LEANING NECK - Song As Portrait

digital/video/film 18 February - 10 March, 2012

A video installation from artist Steven Anderson and live performance by seven artists from both oral traditional and contemporary art backgrounds as a response to portraits from the Scottish National Portrait Gallery."

And they want Union Terrace Gardens. Really?

If Peacock was owned by a rich dude like Trump the anti progress people would have went mental, their agenda is clear and it has nothing to do with keeping the dark hole in the ground.

If this doesn't get voted through then this City is fecked, the settlers and socialists are against everything and it's really damaging Aberdeen, such a pity that this small minority are allowed such a loud voice, they sway the hard of thinking.

Could not agree more, it's really sad to be honest.

Hypocrites, the fucking lot of them. They were greeting the other day that Salmond publically backed the Project. They claim such a public figure should not have an opinion on the subject

He was asked his opinion and he gave it.

They wouldn't have complained had he had their view on it though

Do other cities have this problem or is it escpecially unique to Aberdeen? :banghead:
