If You Could Change 1 Minute

Saved Jock Stein's life in Cardiff and then have Fergie there as his assistant with the 1985/86 Premier League title in his hipper. Would have saved a lot of tears down Gorgie way as well.

This ^^^

Agree about the Van De Ven miss. Horrific moment that sadly was the start of our decline

I'd go back like Terminator and turn up at Pittodrie at the exact second this conversation took place....

"So, we're agreed. We're going ahead and replacing the Beach End with a monstrous and unnecessary two tier stand. Now... let's discuss who's going to build this fucking thing."

1991 Ibrox. Everyone knew Hateley was going to clatter Michael Watt. Sure enough he did after a couple of minutes. At that point all the Dons players should have surrounded Hateley and made sure McGinlay? took action instead of what happened. i.e nothing. That set the tone.

Tone was set by Smithy in the dressing room previous. Team talk seemed to be "OK lads we're just a bunch of chancers who don't deserve to be here against the mighty Gers so lets just play it canny and see if we can nick a dubious point. Oh and Michael I hear Hately's playing so expect to get absolutely gubbed in the first minute but don't make a fuss eh, its embarrassing"

And that's why he deserved to get sacked pure and simple.

Any statto's by the way, my memory says we played 433 most of the season and Van de Ven was only brought in to crowd the midfield and play for the draw, no?

The reality is that winning the league in 1991 would not have stopped our demise. Football was changing and rangers were slowly to be out of our reach. That said I still wish we'd won that day. After that, Souter taking over for clangers, defo changed our recent history as feel if we'd won scots cup jc would have got chance down south and we'd have got compensation instead of paying it out!

I'd have chipped in for a new toaster, which we later found out the club could not afford, before it made for sensational front page gossip.

Also, I would have reversed the decision to change the league rules just before we finished bottom but never got relegated, rather than humiliate poor Falkirk by hastily re-writing the league entry criteria just before they were crowned champions, then cruelly denied by evil Aberdeen, I'd just have taken our medicine given the negative publicity it created.

Also, I'd have put a keeper on the bench in 2000 Cup Final, given the hun propensity for brutal assaults on our keepers with the full backing of the 'referee'.

Falkirk would have still had to beat us in a play off and that was never going to happen :)

You're wrong, I believe the Daily Record before I believe you, they said we should have been relegated, plus we changed the rules as we could barely afford toast for the players never mind butter, that's enough evidence for me.

The rules were in place before the start of that season and from December with Falkirk completely running away with Division 1 there was vitually no chance of relegation.

Edit: And it was a 3 team play off that season with 2nd and 3rd in division 1 with bottom team in SPL (with Div 1 winners going straight up). So if Falkirk finished anywhere in top 3 there would be no play offs.

At worst finishing bottom meant we faced 3 team play off with 2 of the 3 playing in SPL the next season.

I canna believe we have 2 Dons fans here who are using facts as a means of denying a story in Scotland's most reputable news outlet, the voice of the people, the Daily Record, as if you are somehow casting aspersions on their journalistic integrity.

Shame on the pair of you.

Lol - even heard Richard Gordon getting stick for saying it last week on Radio Scotland from folk emailing and texting in.

Rightly so! People like Richard Gordon need to keep the truth to the fore.

It just goes to show that the old adage about a lie repeated often enough is true as almost everyone seems to have lost complete grasp of the facts in this case.
