At The Border Guy
Just popped up on Twitter: BBCchrismclaug Chris McLaughlin #SPL board meeting gives green light to pilot safe standing areas in Scottish stadiums. Link to comment
fatshaft
Can they actually do that? I thought it was an act of Thatcher law that required there to be no standing areas after the Scousers at Hillsborough? Link to comment
NorthernLights24
Scottish Premier League will consider allowing clubs to pilot safe standing areas in grounds Breaking news on the BBC. Great news and an idea I hope many clubs will try out. Link to comment

The seats swivel from the ground. I think that we should look to see if this can be done for our new ground. Link to comment

K-9
Fantastic news. Maybe get some atmosphere back at games naturally as opposed to attempting to manufacture atmospheres Link to comment
Statto83
Anyone know what that would do to the plans for the new stadium? i.e. Did the plans accommodate a section that would potentially 'house' a standing section? I can't imagine they would permit a standing section at Tynecastle for example due to the steepness?? Great new anyway. Link to comment
zander
If this is past in the near future, I'd imagine we won't take part until we move to Loriston. Link to comment

Great new anyway.Don't see an issue, instead of punting in some seats, we'd ram in some crush barriers instead. The fact we're facing a move to a new build is actually one up forus over every other team who will have to try to find an area of their ground for it, and do the necessary work. Link to comment

beer gut
Might be different now with Scots Parliament on the go etc, Scotland is not bound by the law which banned standing areas in top-flight football in England, which came into force after the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough disaster. It's about time. It was an over reaction at the time considering it was police negligence that led to the Hillsborough disaster anyway. If people want to stand at games they should be accommodated. It's no more dangerous than going to a concert. I don't like this part though "A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman expressed surprise at the announcement, saying: "We have not had any detailed discussions with the SPL around the safe-standing areas" What the fuck has it got to do with the police? They are there to protect the public and enforce the law. If the SPL decide to allow standing then tough shit. There has to be a standing section at the new ground. One whole stand for the home and away fans and have them separated by a fence. It would go a long way to making the new ground having an atmosphere. . it would also increase income by allowing more fans in the ground. Come on dons. Get the terracing back. Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
Fundamentally though, will it get more people back to the games? Can't see it myself. Its difficult to generate an atmosphere at a funeral, standing or not. A wee bit of cross thinking though, if the wee neds of the world want to go and stand taking the playground sweary words with them, then would I be more inclined to take my five year old to a family seated area - probably! tightbreeks
sitting down and shouting abuse and/or encouraging your team, always felt a bit weird. standing in winter is much warmer as well. Link to comment
