I was upset when they didn't improve and he deserted Paton and let go of Crawford, albeit he was a wank he was never given a real chance, to say players are going to improve raises expectation, I remember him saying "Once we equalised I thought we'd go on and win the game(Sigma). The man's judgement was completely impaired with his high opinion of himself. If he said that his players would of been "consistently rubbish" then he would of been telling the truth and I would of been happier with that.

You were upset when he released Crawford?

You want the manager to consistently tell his players they are rubbish?

Saying that your players will improve... not really seeing the problem there. I'm sure he figured they couldn't get any worse.

Compare that to the lies AFC has told its fans in the past and that pales into sheer insignificance, even assuming McGhee was somehow being evil and devious, promising the players would improve when he secretly had no intention of coaching those players into better footballers.

And I'm kind of skeptical that McGhee genuinely had some sort of malevolent plan to get our hopes up then not deliver just to fuck up our year.

To put that into context, next to the repeated, "We're going to get you lads a new stadium (but our entire stadium fund comprises Five Pounds and sixty five pence in cash, a lottery ticket that pays out a tenner, and a handful of magic beans that we got as part of the Chris Maguire to Derby deal), and McGhee's "These players will be different" comment is pretty insignificant.

keep the calderwood debate to one thread please

on topic, I just heard McGhee on talksport.

said he was not looking to manage a side in the 4 tier in england but after the interview was very impressed. Apparently they are going to build a new 20k seater ground and the funds are in place for it. they have ambitions to be battling it out for promotion to the championship too.

He must have a bit of deja vu and an overwhelming desire to make his excuses when he heard those words...

Good luck to him hopefully the Bristol Rovers players aren't a bunch of spoilt pricks as well

he's just tripped over his "clownshoes". :thumbup1:

Unlike many of the rest of you mongs, because he was shit for us doesn't mean I want him to die on the streets. I just don't ever want him near us again but wish him no ongoing illwill.

I know that's maybe hard for you to understand but give it a try.

Agree with that, hope he does well down there, like he's done everywhere apart from with us.

Well, that's just it, isn't it? So many heated views on his tenure from members of this Board, yet few (yourself excepted) are willing to address this issue... WHY has he been at least partially successful in every job, EXCEPT for Aberdeen? Yet more proof that the sickness at our Club goes so much deeper than the Manager's chair.

you have referred to other posters this way on a fair few occasions now and its usually when you have contradicted yourself or someone pulls you up on a point you have made.

Chuffed for him, deserves another job. Was really fucked over with us.

Exact opposite i'm afraid found him arrogant and blame shiftting I disagree that he was fucked over by us, he moved from Motherwell to us before his contract was up yet he didnt have any idea of players to go out and sign none whatsoever, he said Well were a better team than us but he had obviously no even bothered his arse researching players for well and decided he was leaving them in the lurch. on the basis he thought well were better than us the bigger budget he had for players he SHOULD have identified for a better team would have fit in quite nicely yet he had no idea whatsoever. The very first game a preseason against Peterhead you could see what he was trying to do and also see that it wouldnt work, we had good players of limited ability the abilities he was asking the players to use were the ones they didnt possess. Was he a good enough coach to recognise this fact and adjust his way of thing to match the tools was he hell.

A guy arrives at a carpentry shop and finds only screwdrivers and screws and he wants to work with hammers and nails, do you blame the factory owner who bought all the tools when you find him bashing in nails with a screwdriver or do you as why he doesnt use screws? Mcghee spent his time hitting the nails with screwdrivers and then blaming the workbench cos the chair fell apart

but what did it for me more than anything is through out thick and thin I never thought of binning my season ticket and not going to a game

He very nearly drove me away from football and i'm one of these saddo's that likes nothing more than sitting watching aberdeen vs ict i a bottom of the league clash in febuary when its -2 and pishing down with a howling gale, the results might not be a million miles away now to what they were but by christ are we a million times better to watch than we were before

For almost driving me from the game I couldnt care less if he never worked in football again

McGhee and that AFC squad did drive me away from all things AFC! I was an avid supporter since 1992 (season ticket holder until 2006 when working offshore all over the world made that not viable). I still regularly went to games - i was in Dnipro, Madrid, Munich and Olomouc as well as countless domestic games but my last game was November 2009 when we beat the Huns 1-0 (Lee Miller goal). I was a stay away supporter for over 2 years, turning down countless free tickets and even corporate twice because apathy had well and truly set in. I attended my first AFC game in over 2 years for the SC win over Forfar the other week - it hasn't rekindled my passion i'm afraid - I still blame McGhee.

McGhee was a far better manager than Jimmy Calderwood...

I had similar feelings circa 2008/09 when it felt like our manager, director of football and chairman and therefore the club itself were insulting the fans and telling them they were wrong for expecting more than mediocrity.

Looking back, McGhee was never going to last - as much as he made an arse of it I'd argue plenty more fans were driven away in the years immediately preceding his arrival and have never seen the club in the same way since.

The club NEEDS a cup win. But even then, one cup win will probably still not bring people back, we should be looking to get to at least 1 final in every 4. A cup win and the new stadium might bring people back.
