Clark "clarko" Robertson

Recommended Posts

Have we finally uncovered a full back that has positional sense and can actually tackle, I know he gave away a pen but he will learn.I was impressed with him

He is much improved on the youngster originally chucked in at the deep end. Bulked up and as you say, good positional sense. He did get caught out by Humphrey's pace when he came on, but then again most would, and there were a few times he combatted that by sitting off him and timing his tackle. If he continues as he is, he could become a good full back at this level.

I've said before that he's came on in leaps and bounds from last season and it seems to be continuing. Well done lad :applause:

Maybe a run in the team will do him good and boost his confidence.

He has seemed like a bunny in the headlights in the past.

He has the attributes to be a decent full back, reasonably quick, and is tall, so wont get beaten at the back post. Needs to improve his decision making and distribution.

Maybe in time that will improve.

I thought he was extremely competent today, unlucky with the penalty, will be very pleased to see him play at full back. Any young loon that is given a chance gets my vote. Same with megginson I would much rather see him in the team than uchechi and chillali.

Think it's safe to say Uchechi & Chalali won't be seen any time soon...or Magennis.

Not even in the 16 today and that's us without Hughes, Rae, Milsom, Osborne.

Would be so refreshing to have a decent team of good young Scottish players promoted from within our own ranks and it seems to be gradually happening.

Pawlett, Robertson and Megginson definitely have a level of promise about them, they just need to receive good and sensible coaching so that it is not unfulfilled.

At the start of season he looked plain frightened. I recall Gonzales trying to use his full backs to distribute the ball against St Mirren early in the season and he quickly realised he couldn't do it as Foster looked like he was going to give it away every time and Robertson just hid - he didn't have the confidence to take the ball.

I'd say he was hugely improved from that point and is starting to look more like a player with each game.

I didn't realise he was converted winger either..

Having just come back from after a couple of consecutive injuries to his ankle and knee, I fully expected him to be struggling a little, or at least being a little cautious but was proved wrong. He gave his all and never shirked from any tackles, collecting a couple of painful bumps in the process. I was impressed by his overall performance although his lack of experience may have been the cause of his being "forced" into giving away the penalty due to Higdon deliberatley backing into him. Higdon did this throughout the game and gained a foul at almost every such encounter - unfortunately Robertson's was in the box. His head did not go down after this mistake but he continued to carry out his duties well and made several telling tackles.

Having followed Robertson's progress in the U-19s, I cannot understand the previous post claiming that he "hid" from throw-outs from the keeper. This has always been Robersons strong point - always making himself available for such throw-outs, although in previous seasons none were ever fortchcoming from Langfield who preferred to kick the ball into touch.

So was I and it's not the only game where he has looked assured either.

Well it was only something in one game - and could be something to do with the fact St Mirren were playing with proper wide players and pushing onto the full backs. As I said this was the first time I saw the lad and he has looked better with every game since IMO.

Agree with you on Langfield. Hopefully its something we'll see the team look to do more often and then Clark can thrive on the posession.

Aye he's defo cemented his place in the squad.

Any other youngsters likely to make the step up to the first team squad in the summer? Is it a given that Shaunnessey and Low will be in and around first team next year?

IF (big if) we somehow manage to secure Reynolds long term & maybe also McArdle, then Shaugnessey (excuse spelling) will be struggling to get near the first team, what with Considine & Anderson also.
