Mass Effect 3

Utterly brilliant. Still playing through it so if you post DONT POST SPOILERS but it's excellent.

Culmination of 3 games over what... 4 years? Plot points from even 4 years ago having ramifications in the current game.

Brilliant.

I'm hammering through it right now. I won't post spoilers either, but while I like the story thus far, I'm not sure the combat is as good as in the first 2. I elected to go with the RPG option in the new 3-way choice system that allows you to (supposedly) dictate what style you want the game to play. Sadly, it still feels, from a combat point of view, that the RPG elements have been pared back, to an almost Gears of War style action game.

Still, I shall see how the story pans out.

5 years of playing the character, loving the arcs, loving the way it hung together and the last 20 minutes made me want to rage kill the nearest anyone.

Think I was about an hour after finishing of wtf-stunned-wtf-ness and grumpy for the rest of the day.

Amazing level of ballsing up such an involved story.

I think they got that kid that thinks "it was all a dream" was cool to write their ending. (That's not a spoiler btw :tumbleweed:)

The only way they can rescue it for me is to fix the fucking ending, for free, then release the first BIG and GOOD DLC for free.... and hope for the best.

If those clowns fix the ending in charge for DLC they successfully knifed one of their big franchises.

Something that apparently came up is that they changed their ending right at the end. I don't know why, I don't know which clown took which drugs to think that was a good idea, but it really really *really* shows.

Like watching an episode of the Sweeney only for the last scene to be Benny Hill chasing a tart in a bikini around the room before turning to the camera with his startled mouth open expression and cut to titles.

I've just finished it and have to agree, the ending is a disappointment. I've Googled and apparently there are no fewer than SEVEN endings, but (and this is the kicker) according to major - ie. trustworthy - gamer sites, there is very little difference in some of them AND the Paragon/Renegade feature doesn't affect it.

As a side-note, am I the only one that almost smashed the TV when trying (and dying - yes dying, although I won't spoil it for those who haven't played yet) to scan planets this time around? A distraction that was as unnecessary as it was unwelcome, imo.

I never had a problem with the planet scanning thing you're referring to.

Such a shame though... great characters, plots, fantastic music (no really it IS) and so involving and then... the end.

I've told a mate who is playing it to stop and wait for whatever is announced with the ending because it really soured the entire thing for me the way it ended up.

It is indeed an anti-climax, to what has otherwise been a great series.

Other than the ending, I found the combat rather repetitive and tiresome this time, especially those fucking smoke grenades!
