Sonoftherock
The England squad gets publicly announced late today... so the usual twitter, facebook, etc, rumours are flying around. The word on street suggests that Rio Ferdinand will be left out, along with Micah Richards. I wonder if Rio Ferdinand would have made it, had it not been for the race row involving Terry and his brother. Ferdinand has been poor for much of this season, but surely his experience would have been beneficial? Still a better option than Joleon Lescott IMO. Surprised if the Micah Richard rumour is true also.... with Kyle Walker missing out, then they're not giving themselves much cover at right back. Also Richards could fill in at centre half if required. Maybe Hodgson has told Gary Neville to bring his boots! Also suggestions that Zamora makes it, but Crouch misses out. Link to comment
minijc
Neville will have massive input on the squad selection, John Ruddy looks like he'll be one of the keepers selected which is good, he went from 2/1 at 10am yesterday to 4/7 within 30 minutes, good chance that Grant Holt might get picked aswell which would make alot of sense. I'd go as far as saying the complete opposite - I doubt he had any say! I'm guessing Hodgson would probably have had the squad set in his mind well before then! Link to comment
Coopy100
I've been wholly unimpressed by Ferdinand this season so not surprised if he is the one to mss out. Zamora for Crouch seems a strange one to me though. Can't say I have even noticed Zamora this season and Crouch always seems to do well when he plays for ingerlund. Link to comment

Neville is the face of Sky sports sotr, you're forgetting the feeble of mind sit there drooling at his every word, every mention of the greatest wankathon in the world has the droolers applauding. It's natural therefore to assume that he is in fact, the most knowledgeable man in football if you come from such a starting point. I however fully agree with you, more importantly however, I fully agree with barrassie. Link to comment

BrianFaePerth
I'm excited for the team to be announced. They have the best players in the world and will win the Euro's this year, so looking forward to the team being announced. :hysterical: Link to comment
vanderark14
There is only 1 team the English should fear and that is Holland, the rest of the teams England can match up to with ease. bored at work so on a fishing trip again? Link to comment
vanderark14
I'm only just in work, was later in today. It's just the same as supporting Scotland really, all the Scotland team is English pretty much - so decided well fuck it, I'll support the home nation this time round rather than chosing somewhere like Spain / Germany where Ilive miles from, England is only just south of the border so mon the English. must try harder Link to comment
vanderark14
I don't have to try anything. I know who'll quote my posts an respond before I've even typed my messages. The thing is, I believe England have a chance this year and I want them to win it - because I know the amount of people it would wind up if they won it. Me? I wouldn't care less - so secretly hoping England do it to be honest. good for you bud, you roar on the three lions with pride. Link to comment
Dynamo
Ferdinand is past it. They'll play Terry and Cahill at CB. I hope they pick Phil Jones - headless chicken. Link to comment
vanderark14
It won't be with pride, I'm not going to run around the room celebrating if they score - I'll just be happy for them and raise a smile knowing the amount of people (Scotland fans probably) who will be absolutely raging. If Scotland got to something like this, it would be a no brainer - I'd back them but they are fucking shit and haven't made anything since 98 (and how when they had Brown in charge I'll never fucking know). cool story  Link to comment

Can't say I have even noticed Zamora this season and Crouch always seems to do well when he plays for ingerlund. zamora, surely not.i know woy has been a fan of his in the past but taking him would be madness.personally i would take sturridge, wellbeck and carroll as strikers alonside rooney of course. no one else deserves even a close mention. thats all they have and even three of those are pretty much untested at international level. as for ferdinand. well he, like the united defnece in general this season, went through a very bad patch 1/4 of the way through the season, but regained their customary compusure around new year time. all in all he's had an OK season so his exclusing must be as a fallout from terrygate as no other england centre back would come close to taking his place. its a bold move by hodgson but terrys form recently, aside from kneeing people, has been like of old. and it looks like capello isnt the only one who deosnot rate richards. either way you look at it its gotta be the weakest england squad since early 90s. But luckily for those wanting England to implode so is John Terry this season. Also this could cause rifts in the squad as likes of Rooney, Wellbeck (haha-why?) and other United lads will take the side of Rio no doubt. Link to comment

Not naive enough to think he gets the job one week before squad announced with no time for homework. Link to comment
Scarface
Goalkeepers: Hart obviously no1, pity that both Robinson and Foster have retired for international scene as they've both had good seasons and would make great understudies, not many others to choose from with probably Green and Ruddy (maybe Carson) being the picks. Central defenders: Rio and Terry lead the pack experience-wise, but off-field issues means their pairing is unlikely, Cahill and Jagielka are both good back-ups, personally don't rate Lescott too highly but he'll be in the mix too. RBs: Good depth here, anyone from Richards, Walker (if fit), G. Johnson in that order with Smalling and Jones potential understudies. LBs: Obvious choices of Cole and Baines here, with the latter being my preferred starter. Central midfield: Fairly obvious selections here with Lampard and Gerrard options for an attacking berth, with Parker and Barry capable in defensive roles, and Carrick a good back-up option too. Wingers: Again good options here with the likes of Young, Lennon, Walcott being obvious pacey/attacking options, with the likes of Milner, A. Johnson and Downing as potential understudies, and perhaps the likes of Sturridge and Oxlade-Chamberlain as surprise inclusions. Strikers: Rooney being suspended opens the door, personally I'd take goal-machine Defoe along with a target man of either Carroll or Crouch, Bent would make a good understudy if fit, as would Welbeck, and a possible surprise inclusion of someone like Holt or Zamora. Bluto10
Oxlade Chamerlain is in the squad. quite right too. at least he has something about him that many of englands midfiield lack. (disclaimer - although i've only seen this 'something' in small bursts so maybe he is actually walcott the second.) Link to comment

Bluto10
no sturridge but they pick defoe? at least he has gone with wellbeck and carrol.no adam johnson. he's probably better than walcott, downing and young put together.and no carrick. who is perhaps, along with lampard, the only midfielder enlgand have who has a brain. barry, milner, gerrard are ally symptomatcic of englands past failures.they should have been on the scrap heap years ago. FFS, I meant its a pity for their squad. Can you share with us your thoughts on the selections? Hopefully my last post in this thread, to keep things on topic, are my thoughts on the England squad:* I take it Aaron Lennon is injured, as I love his direct style of play and he gives great width out wide for Spurs.* Im surprised that Phil Jagielka didnt get selected, although I note hes on the reserve list.* Im also surprised that Micah Richards missed out, although thats probably because hes not been getting a regular game at club level for the latter part of the season with City.* Im not surprised that Jermain Defoe has been picked because hes got a fucking awesome barnet right now Link to comment
