Bobby Connor
John Barnes @JohnBarnes01Celtic & Rangers given SPL permission to play glamour friendlies on second week of new season. 11/12 August John Barnes @JohnBarnes01@SPLstats I think that's why it's HOME teams that can postpone to play friendlies John Barnes @JohnBarnes01@SPLstats They are both being scheduled by SPL to play at home that weekend Absolute joke of a league. RUL
So rangers will be in the SPL next season is what I take from that... Apart from the league casting home fixtures for teams that are never allowed to play at home. Link to comment

Coopy100
It is fucking farcical. I went on a bit of a rant earlier at thin spl stats boy about this. These two fucking cunts should be told no chance you are disrupting the league season again. It is honestly getting to the point I'm expecting to open a letter from the SPL saying "fuck off" such is their ambition to totally alienate fans that pay to come through the gates to watch their product. Supersub
and the full article... Both halves of the Old Firm will be allowed to postpone their Scottish Premier League fixtures on the weekend of 11/12 August to play friendlies. Rangers and Celtic will both be scheduled to play at home that weekend. Celtic have announced plans to face Spanish champions Real Madrid in the United States on 11 August."Any other club scheduled to play at home that weekend will also be offered the same flexibility," said a spokesperson for the league. "The SPL Board is mindful of the benefit to Scottish football as a whole of its clubs participating in glamorous and lucrative matches against some of the world's highest-profile clubs. "The SPL has therefore confirmed that, in line with an SPL Board decision taken in November 2011, Celtic FC and Rangers FC will be scheduled to play at home on the weekend of 11/12 August 2012. "Both clubs will be allowed to postpone their games that weekend in order to play in friendly matches." Link to comment

DD1903
Why are both clubs being scheduled to play at home? I thought the same myself! No way will the glasgow plod want 2 old firm home games on the same day! Unless they expect one to be moved for TV. Even then an old firm home game on tv is rare. Link to comment
ZeroTolerance
Although the end is nigh Rangers are still an SPL club. If they are still in existence when the fixtures are scheduled then they will be scheduled with Rangers in them. Link to comment

sheepiekev
Why are both clubs being scheduled to play at home? My guess is that any team would complain if a home game against the Old Firm was moved to a midweek....drop in crowd, less money etc. Link to comment
Bobby Connor
My guess is that any team would complain if a home game against the Old Firm was moved to a midweek....drop in crowd, less money etc. Not really the point tho is it? It's a bloody scandal that devalues the competition in order to pander to the OF. Why are they both going to be scheduled at home? What the fuck is going on with this shit? Fucking sick to death of the SPL money grabbing, myopic bunch of cunts running a league for the benefit of two teams and to hell with the idea of sport. T.W.A.T.S. Link to comment
Ke1t
Rather than creating a fixture list, why doesn't the SPL simply ask Celtic and Newco when they would like to play their games, and against whom? It's utterly disgraceful that the other 10 clubs are inconveniencing the OF by playing games during the official season. But of course.. they're not really inconveniencing the OF, because the SPL simply cancels the games at the OF's orders. It's pretty much guaranteed at this point that I won't be investing any time or money on Scottish Farceball next season. Link to comment

The Boofon
Hopefully a few spine and neck injuries. Amputated legs as well. Would the SPL not have been better just postponing week 2 games to save themselves this outcry? Doncaster has to get fired. This is getting beyond a fucking joke now. Link to comment

So basically the fixtures (which have not been announced yet) have already been altered so 2 teams can play glamour friendlies that weekend. The league are also allowing the other teams to play friendlies on the condition that 4 of the other 8 teams not involved in this chaos (obviously excluding the 2 that play the OF) don't want to play. Farce. Link to comment

dundee_red
If they want to play 'glamour' friendlies, fine. But they should still have to fulfill their SPL fixtures. Christ, it's not like the don't have big enough squads to cope with it! Does any other league allow clubs to postpone fixtures for friendlies? Link to comment
Westhill Red
The fact they also have been given home fixtures further highlights how bias the SPL are to the OF to give them the advantage of a home tie midweek over a difficult weekday jaunt to to Inverness or Dundee. Link to comment
V for Vendetta
Just another few rules added to aid and abet the old firms endless money chasing exercise. Oh and did I mention that the rest of Scottish Football can go and get themselves fucked as long as the Old Firm can make an extra few quid with which to then dominate our game. Oh and don't think they are being ironic when they then complain about the lack of competition. They really aren't. I thought this rule on friendlies after the start of the season was a crock of shit last year but I was willing to bite my tongue on the assumption that as it was the first year we had such an early start games might be agreed etc etc. But to now find this will be a regular occurrance really is a load of utter toss. Plenty of leagues start a different times or even run with incongrous seasons. Do ANY of them allow their two biggest clubs special dispensation to organise special money spinning games DURING the season AT THE EXPENSE of other clubs. I agree with the early start. In fact I'd go a week or 2 earlier and have a proper 3 week winter break. But if we set the season start earlier then that has to be the actual start of the season. ie for all clubs equally. And the clubs should just fucking get on with it. Let them have "glamour" friendlies abroad during the winter break or whatever. What the hell is a glamour friendly anyway? Do they all play with their tops off or something? I could just imagine the fucking imbecilic comments from the ugly fuckers that accompany their topless pictures on page 3. Link to comment

ChutneyLove
I am one more stupid press release / decision away from never attending another SPL game in my puff. I wonder how long it's going to take. A refusal of a newco get's them back to square one. Link to comment
Dandyesque
It is beyond credence that they state only those teams involved in a home fixture can have a friendly, then schedule an impossible fixture list to allow both the OF to do so. Their justification for allowing the postponements is a reasonable one, it is the above that irks. Link to comment
Dandyesque
On a different note, will the SFA allow 4 postponements next season to allow them to play each other in unglamorous "friendlies"? Link to comment
