Portugal V Czech

Recommended Posts

the Czech coach is right tho, he is by no means one of the best 'players', definately the best goalscorer in the world (with messi) by far and away! but all in all, there are plenty better footballers than him. he'll score tonight tho, czechs are shite and too borin, might make it a tight game for a while with their shite unoffensive style but in the end portugal's class and fast flowin footy will be too much.

Respect your opinion but interested in just who you think is better than him??

Messi possibly but who else... Lightening quick, two good feet, phenomenal scoring record, excellent in the air, can beat a man for fun, can take free kicks, usually excellent at penalties (albeit missed a couple recently)... Do I need to go on?

Ronaldo has just dominated in the last few games! There has been a lot pressure on him with regards reproducing his club form at international level - i think previously he was almost trying to hard! Will be a bit of a worry for Portugals next opponents... if Portugal keep it tight at the back, Ronaldo is good enough to win this on his own.

That's what I think he needs to do before he'll get credit from some, also same can be said for Messi at international level, Maradona done it so they'd need to do it, both out of this world though.

I think that's fair enough too. Maradona dragged an otherwise unspectacular Argentinian side to the World Cup. It was an astonishing feat.... and that's what sets him apart. He did it at every level.

a feat not wholly unprecedented however.

i remember maradons career in the mid to late 80s very well and from what ive seen i say messi has eclisped him by some considerable margin.

They've got Spain next, whilst I can see what you're saying I don't think he's quite good enough to single handedly dismantle Spain.

I always find it difficult to define the best player in the world now or even the best player ever. People would mention Maradonna or Pele but ask either to play centre half and they'd have been fucked.

In saying that, there's no doubt that Ronaldo is ONE OF THE best players.

So reading between the lines you're saying Derek Young is the best player in the world.

Your first sentence. Do you even understand what you are saying here? I'm talking about Maradona, Ronaldo and Messi in isolation here. Only one of those three has dominated at international, as well as club level. I appreciate that you can probably throw the likes of Cruyff and Zidane into the mix too.

Incidentally, it's very difficult to compare, but there is definitely an argument that Maradonas achievement of almost single-handedly inspiring a relatively modest club like Napoli to two scudettos was even greater feat than anything Ronaldo or Messi have achieved. Although, because Ronaldo and Messi spent their best years at massive, star-studded clubs Man United, Real Madrid and Barcelona, you simply cannot compare.

If Ronaldo or Messi transferred somewhere like Mallorca or Real Sociedad, would they be able to inspire them to multiple championships?

repeat of the world cup 1/4 final. or if france win a reapeat of a few euro semi finals.

great games in prospect whoever wins.

i think with ronaldo he has to play well for portugal to win. his ego gets in the way of the team sometimes i feel.

Aye, the Portuguese look pretty solid at the back right now. The central midfielders like Veloso, Moutinho and Meireles protect the back four very effectively and in Pepe they have maybe the defender of the tournament so far... if they can keep it tight, then Ronaldo is on form, and he has the ability to open up their defence.

Pepe's major fault is he loves a foul. A red card waiting to happen IMO

i bolded the worng sentence.

i meant this one ''Maradona dragged an otherwise unspectacular Argentinian side to the World Cup. It was an astonishing feat''.

i's impossible to compare them like for like i do agree. i guess my point is that maradonas brilliance was quite short lived. no surprises really given his personality

That's true, but when he was at his peak, he was miles better than Messi, and anyone else in living memory, a truly phenomenal footballer.

You're right, Pepe has actually had a good tournament but Coentraeo has been fucking amazing so far. What a player that guy is :applause:
