20 Quid A Month?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how much people could afford to donate to Aberdeen, via direct debit, to be placed in a player fund. By which I mean a fund that can be utilised purely for paying players, rather than servicing debt.

20 quid a month, for most of us I'm sure, would be an insignificant amount to be deducted on a monthly basis.

If only 2000 Aberdeen fans, and that's a pretty low number, were to donate 20 quid a month into a player fund you're looking at nearly half a million quid per year, dedicated to the PLAYING staff.

That would make a significant difference to the product on the park.

Obviously 20 quid is a ballpark figure... some people could donate more, some less.

I wouldn't want any kinds of 'perks' or freebies.. I don't give a shit about that, so overheads would be pretty minimal.

Chances, slim to none... but this idea barely even qualifies as ambitious. A 20 quid direct debit that you sign up for one time, can cancel at any time, and your job is done.

Was that fund a don thing not a disaster in the past?

Yeah, but that relied on donations to a third party that didn't have access to AFC's database, at a time when crowds were plummeting and there was no 'feel-good' factor at the club.

I can see why that would fail.

A project run by AFC itself should have more chance of success. Particularly in light of current events.

Should....

I'm surprised you'd trust Milne not to syphen half of it off into his account

I'd considered that. Some kind of independent confirmation might be in order. An annual report on balance and who is being paid from the account should be enough to prevent any fiscal jiggery-pokery. What would that entail.... a bank balance and details on players' remuneration?

Not a lot of work involved in that.

Good idea Kelt if they had the imagination and technology. I always enjoy your posts. The technology is here now. RedTV isn't quite there.

I'd sign up if they could show every match or even home match with catch-up, in full, even better. Now with Netflix, Lovefilm, and I'm working down south just now on the Tesco cloud equivalent, How long can they not do this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking your idea, far from it.

Anything that gives the club more money to improve the team is fine by me.

How can you guarantee that 100% of the cash would be used for the playing side?

My comment about the syphening was aimed at you and your absolute mistrust and hatred of Stewart Milne :thumbup1:

AFC Chat could be the treasurers of the fund. The club could only access the cash once everything was agreed.

Bebo is very trustworthy. :thumbup1:

Just for clarity Kelt; this is for 'signing on' fees and not wages? :dontknow:

Well it's direct debit.

You give AFC your bank details and they automatically transfer 20 quid a month into a separate account.

It's harder to buy crack in Detroit than it would be to set up a player fund.

...and it's pretty fucking easy to buy crack in Detroit..

I'd do it myself if I thought people would trust me not to buy a 500 gallon drum of Jack Daniels every month with their donations. I've got a financial advisor who, for a minimal fee, would invest the cash and make it magically increase beyond all human imagination... and that's only half jest.

But anyway.. the club has a database of several thousand Aberdeen fans. It shouldn't be beyond the physical bounds of their capabilities to come up with a scheme that they can present to Dons fans at home and abroad to improve the product on the park.

Even local businesses could be canvased for, what, a hundred quid a month for a player fund. Most decent sized companies spend that on a day's-worth of shithouse paper.

It's not that I hate and distrust Stewart Milne... okay, I do 100% hate and distrust the guy to the point that I've even had dreams where he's looking all suspicious and I'm shouting at him, "HEMMIN, MILNE! THE FUCK YOU UP TO?"

But it wouldn't be rocket science to completely nail all transactions and in and out of any fund... so if someone, not saying who, but if someone at the club really needed, say, 500 new stripey shirts for the wardrobe in Bedroom 23 in their giant fucking mansion, then they wouldn't be taking the cash out of the player fund without it being a giant red flag for anyone who can count.

Think where the difficulty is, is that AFC cannot accept donation (not a charity) so you would have to be purchasing something off them?

Not entirely sure but I don't think it's just as simple as all that.

Then you get a bobble hat sent to your house once a year. I happen to like bobble hats, and I'd be willing to buy one from AFC on tic, say 20 quid a month.

AFC Chat would not be using the money, merely trustees of the account on behalf of the club. :P

It's for whatever is needed regarding players.

So, if Messi was willing to come to AFC so long as he got a daily Rub n Tug from a Vietnamese massuese, then it gets paid for from the fund.

Now I'm in the mood for a Rub n Tug from a Vietnamese 'massuese'.

Jesus, I'm a marketer's dream.

EDIT: A female Vietnamese massuese if possible

I doubt SM and directors have the forward thinking and there's many copyrights and legal obstacles to cross, as the early pioneers of this have encountered.

We'd all want them to get with the times and embrace it but it's 10-20 years in the offing.

Apple, Netflix, Lovefilm(Amazon), Blinkbox and a few others succeeded with the studios and channels in the USA, this is Scotland. They haven't got to sport yet.

I would love this to be a huge shock to the Murdoch empire and it will be.

Cheers :)

Are you suggesting that the RedWeb website start renting movies?

Probably should be focusing on their core business right now... but I'd definitely watch a streaming Cup Winners Cup match with audio commentary from Willie Miller and Doug Rougvie.

Problem with paying 'whatever' is that the funds would need to be guaranteed. At least with just 'signing on' fees, you can look at what's currently in the fund and spend accordingly. If you signed a player on

Could there not be a stipulation that the money had to be spent on transfer fee's each season.

If its not spent the club gives you double your money back.

That would surely stop them using it to cover debts.

Yes, but what if we sign a Bosman?

You cant publish the players salary, and you cant dictate to the club "you must spend x

The core business always comes first. All I'm saying is the technology is there now to bypass Sky, Setanta and sell direct online even as an SPL go to market option, even through a partner initially. The more people paying and watching the better. Satellite and cable channels take huge cuts and pay little back compared the the EPL.

lol @ Wullie and Dougie.

So you're saying we won't be signing Messi anytime soon? Bummer.

Anyway, just out of interest, how much is a daily Rub n Tug from a Vietnamese masseur? :dontknow:

I'm led to believe 150 American will get you a happy ending, and extras are extra. But that would be a good quality of surroundings and 'massage'. You could probably get it for as little as 20 buck from a pre-op tranny in a back alley in Taylor.

I'm led to believe....

So long as the account can be monitored then I don't see any need to publish salaries. And the point wouldn't be to dictate who the cash is spent on or what they're paid.

For a couple of grand a year you could have an independent financial advisor look at the account, if you don't trust the club not to spend the cash on pies and sheep hookers.

Guys

The Stand Free Foundation is already up and running.

This has a bank accounts and accounts are audited by a well known firm of accountants (not us).

The Foundation is already there
