A new Jimi Hendrix record is due to be released next year, featuring 12 previously unreleased songs.

 

The album is called 'People, Hell And Angels', with the songs recorded in 1968 and 1969. It's believed Hendrix intended to put the songs on 'First Days Of The New Rising Sun', his follow-up to 'Electric Ladyland'. He was working on the new material when he died in September of 1970. He was 27.

 

The album is due to be released in the U.S. on March 5, and Rolling Stone magazine has revealed the cover artwork. Hendrix's website says the tracks suggest "new, experimental directions", as he worked on material separate from the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Apparently, he explored "fresh diversions from his legendary guitar work", trying out horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar.

 

Meantime, Hendrix's legendary set from Woodstock in 1969 is set to hit theatres around the world later this month. It's being released to celebrate the 70th year of Hendrix's birth and will play alongside the new film 'Live at Woodstock' - which explores the struggle to stage the event and secure Hendrix as the headliner.
