you think jacks been one of our best players?

LAWL

I think Jack's had a good season. A solid season if you will, nothing spectacular. 7/10. More of a holding midfielder as he doesn't have the burst of pace that Pawlett/Hayes/McGinn has but he still does a very important job. Doesn't give the ball away very often, allows our front players to attack and gives a sense of protection to the back four.

That's very unfair on Jack. A lot of the reason we are playing better is because Hayes isn't playing LB and we aren't trying to shoehorn Jack, Robson and Flood in the same midfield.

Jack is a superb central midfielder, he can find time on the ball, pick a pass, make good forward runs, protect the back four. I agree that his form dropped before his injury but to say he is better at RB, no.

Jack not good enough to play midfield in this team im afraid.

Couldn't disagree with you more. His role is to break up play and keep the ball; I think that because he doesn't run around like Flood or play goal creating passes like Robson his job goes under the radar a bit. His contribution is subtle but I think he's an extremely effective player and deserves to be an automatic pick in our team. I really like the dynamic between Robson Jack and Flood.

Agree with all this apart from the highlighted section. With all three in the team we lose our edge, as one of Hayes, Pawlett or Mcginn would have to make way.

Its a good problem to have though as Jack, Robson and Flood are top class SPFL midfielders, McInnes just has to decide which two are best for certain games.

Arguement could be though we are not enough of an attacking threat when we play Jack, Robson and Flood at the same time while also only playing one striker anyway. In the 4-5-1 we can afford to have three attack minded players.

I don't think the upturn in chances created is a fluke since Jack has went out of the team - we shouldnt have been shoehorning all three in (to the 4-5-1...perhaps in a 4-4-2 it could be ok).

Yeah, I agree with what you're saying here. I like Robson playing a bit further forward though, although Pawlett is without a doubt far superior in that position. What I don't like about playing all 3 midfield is McInnes sticking with a target man up front; Vernon and Zola aren't good enough to be in there and I'd far rather have had McGinn up top with Hayes and Pawlett either side of him than stick Hayes in left back. Obviously now we have Rooney this isn't so much of an issue, but as you say it's really good that we have quality in there and having a strong bench makes a real difference in this league.

The other thing that hasn't been considered yet is that Jack has only had 10 minutes on the park since Rooney arrived, it could be that Rooney's movement is the main catalyst for change here rather than Jack's absence.

Jack is very capable of playing neat passes between opposition defenders, something that Rooney might thrive on.

Yeah i completely disagree with people saying jack has had a bad season or isn't good enough. He is good enough im afraid, i think he's class, rarely wastes a pass, breaks up play very well and can run all day.. just because he isn't a stand out doesnt mean he's all of a sudden not good enough for the team, same goes for mcginn, we all have seen what he can do.

Anyways pawlett is class, better than gauldy boy.

Although we won 4-0, I thought we missed Jack in the semi final. We needed someone in the middle of the park to hold the ball up and to help break down anything coming at the defence.

Don't agree with that at all SF. Was this not what Flood and Robson did for most of the game? If Jack had played, Hayes probably wouldnt have. He's a promising young player but a replaceable one and our best two results/performances of the season have been with him absent.

The performance was nowhere near the best of the season. We were awful for long periods and really missed someone in the middle of the park to just calm things down. Neither Flood nor Robson managed that in the game as we got overran until we scored the 3rd.

Between 1st and 2nd goals, we were a little shaky, yes.

Who would you have taken out of that eleven to accommodate Jack?

Results without him dont lie.

2 results?! Ludicrous argument and ludicrous to state that Jack isn't good enough for midfield. I wouldn't say he's up there for player of the year but he's had a solid season so far. Builds attacks from the back, doesn't give the ball away, great stamina, strong in the tackle and can get up the pitch and grab a goal occasionally. Somehow, all these attributes don't seem to deem him worthy of place in the midfield according to you, how I don't know.

Stopped reading at solid season, but then skimmed and seen builds play from the back and almost died laughing.

Anybody who thinks jack was acceptable in the last 10 games he played needs their heads looked at - he was one of the worst players in the team, awful run of form he was on.

Really? Have you actually watched these games or just making generalisations because you've not seen his name on a score sheet?

Zola was on an awful run of form by missing the ball let alone the goal in almost every game; Vernon was awful because he gave away the ball so much; Shaugnessy can be criticised for his distribution and so can Clark Robertson. What was it about Jack's performances that were so bad?

At the end of the day, players have been dropped from our team this season due to poor form; McInnes isn't afraid to do this. If he was in such bad form why did he keep getting selected in the starting 11?

Aye whatever. Reasoned debate must be beyond you. Not one person has agreed with you and you've given me nothing more than 'he's been shite'.

Jack, like every other player on the planet, will have dips in form. I would have thought his class would have been apparent to all though???

Just shows that some people really don't recognise a good player when they see one.

And that Stoney is gunning for an extra star in his signature...

Jack is a fine player - particularly at this level.

Reminds me of a latter day Brian Grant

Back on topic....

Imagine how dangerous our squad would be if we had kept Ryan Fraser. We'd blow every team in the SPL away with Fraser, Pawlett, Hayes and McGinn running at defenses.

I'd like to see more direct, surging runs from Pawlett. He's doing it more often, but he still tends to drift in and out of games. His confidence looks sky high and after those two cup wins i'm hoping he's going to be even more dangerous in the last quarter of the season.
