Pittodrie

Recommended Posts

Pittodrie is a dump. Can you imagine turning up for work there every day? That, coupled with no training facilities, and I can't see it being a great place to spend your days as a player. Is this hindering us keeping and attracting players?

When young players are offered salaries 10 times their current salary by teams in England, I don't think a training ground would make any difference at all to be honest.

Yes it would be great having our own facilities but i'm sure the players are happy enough heading to the sports village or rgu centre when its a bit too cold for outdoor training. When we were actually winning honours these places weren't on the go and i think it's a convenient excuse that a lack of our own place is making the difference.

No but when teams such as Hibs & maybe even County now offer similar money to what we can then THAT'S where the difference can become apparent.

Why go to Aberdeen with their shit (non existent) training facilities when I can go to a club with a decent & professional set up?

Yeah, that's the thing. In the 80's there wasn't much alternative. Well, in Scotland anyway. Now, we are so far behind people with a lower budget than us.

Admittedely I'm old school, but what facilities do they actually require for training that they can't find in Aberdeen.

It's a University City with 2 Universities which boast 1st class facilities.

Custom built training facilities, or the lack of, has no bearing on the attitude within the club, which has been holding us back.

Young loons though have grown up with Goals, Strikers and with the odd 3G / 4G pitch popping up, so maybe they see these things more of a priority.

Then again, such poofy boots the wear nowadays.

Pittodrie a dump? Possibly, but if the team were serious contenders for every competition we entered, no-one would care.

Showers on a cauld day after running about on shite covered public parks would be a plus for example.

Relying on the uni's state of the art facilities is all well & good but we need somewhere that can be used anytime it's needed rather than having to rely on a schedule that 'suits all parties'

A club like Aberdeen (in this day & age) that is supposedly not stuck in the past SHOULD have it's own facilities & that would make a hell of a difference to those wanting to sign & to deny that is naive.

Yes we should be doing better regardless of whether we have the facilities or not but the simple truth is that Aberdeen football club are a professional football club playing in the Scottish top flight in 2013 & that is reason enough to have our own training grounds/facilities.

It's criminal that our debt is spiraling bigger & faster than any other club (except Hearts) & yet we have fuck all to show for it other than one fucking stand named after a great guy that would turn in his grave looking at the state of the club & how far behind it's being left.

It's not need, it's crave. Training is where players spend the majority of their working life and if you can get a better life on the same or a better wage then what would you do? Even if it was a lower wage, if you have a better time at work, you'll be happier. If you had no ties to any club in Scotland and you had a choice of the 11 non-Celtic teams in the league, which one would you take? Would it be us?

100% this.

You think? If DD time had been the 1990's and 2000's then history would have been different that's for sure but not for the better I suspect, football changed signficantly in the 1990's, the clubs no longer had the power it had in the 1980's, much like Jim McLean and Dundee Utd, our chairman would have struggled to keep us in the SPL/Premier League without entering debt. As has been acknowledged in other threads, the dons dismal financial state isn't through a lack of effort on the board, but they chased the dream and got it spectacularly wrong with managers.

The DD stand is one of the biggest causes of our debt though.

Surely they should have designed a stand that could have led to the rest of the ground being improved (in time) to suit the stand or did they know back then that the full intention was to move grounds? if so then why spunk such a fortune on the stand, or at least on such a grand scale?

Because it gave us rental areas for conferences, corporate, fun days, hell even weddings, it was seen as an investment. I think it should be utilised more than it is by the club but it was a huge expense and a very big commitment to make it so big.

Yeah but it wasn't Milne who commissioned the DD stand, it was DD son.

And we got about 40% paid by Football Trust grant.

The RDS was not the great expense that caused

the debt to spiral out of control.

Allowing managers to spend stupid money to keep up

with the huns was main reason.

Fuck the rangers then, fuck the rangers now, fuck the rangers forever.

I don't care who commissioned the RDS really.

But Milne's whole tenure as our chairman has been a complete failure.

I don't know whether anyone could have done better, or who could step in now & do better but the fact remains that in his tenure. Aberdeen fc have been utterly shite :dontknow:

He's underwriting a debt that he helped spiral out of control & arguably is mybe even the main cause for our spiraling debt & zero success compared to all other SPL clubs (Hearts excluded)

If only there was a way we could have gotten out of paying some sort of payments so we didn't have to pay so much out!

Richard Donald Stand little to nothing to do with our debt. Donald Stand opened in 1993 and in 1998 the clubs net debt was

I don't know the full cause of our debt but I do know that Milne has been the chairman that has been in charge whilst our club went from being in the black to massively in the red.

The RDS is the only thing of any worth that the club actually has cos other than that all we have is the land value of Pittodrie.

So at the moment we have have huge stand that looks silly compared to the rest of the ground & a massive debt.

The RDS is practically worthless, I'm afraid.
