Some of the thread son here this week have reminded obout how bloody good Scottish football used to be back in the 1980s that was when i was just at an age to soak in all the success that clubs and players had an appreciate the top players the the game at the time could boast.

in that decade 1980-1989, we saw four differnt clubs crowned league champions,

two clubs reach European Club finals, the same two clubs reach another semi final of European competion, and the domestic cups being won by provincial clubs and the international side showcasing some of the best players we have ever produced in decided to tyr and list the top players of the 80s in no particular order and came up with the following illustrius list all of whom are Scottish and some of which never graced the national side who would you add to the list, and indee what are your thoughts on the game in the 80s

JIM LEIGHTON, CAMPBELL MONEY, HAMISH MCALPINE, HENRY SMITH, BILLY THOMSON, ANDY GORAM,

WILLIE MILLER, ALEX MCLEISH, STEWART MCKIMMIE, DOUG ROUGVIE, STEWART KENNEDY, DAVE NAREY, PAUL HEGARTY, RICHARD GOUGH, MAURICE MALPAS, DANNY MCGRAIN,

The 90s saw money creep into the game like a rhino on speed and it has eradicated any chance of Scottish Football being able to compete ever again in Europe and killed several of our clubs who have tried to buy success.

We are still producing decent young players, but they aren't getting the chance to play a higher level of football due to the influx of foreigners into the EPL so lower league clubs are snapping up good young prospects. Gone are the days when we regularly had tons of players playing for top sides in England and abroad, they will ply their trade in the Championship instead for a quick buck and never reach the heights they would have done had they been playing against better opposition and in Europe.

Happier days then. Looked forward to go every week home and away now it's more like a chore or a duty.

Your super squad of players is spot on there.

It went tits up the day David Murray and Souness got together imo. They totally wrecked our game. Spending Christ kens what on english internationals to begin with, then a never ending procession of big buck mercenaries.

Just read TWL's post and the Bosman rule didn't help although it affected every club in Europe, so why has it apparently affected our game more than the rest?

could be wrong but the rds has shafted us more, am sure someone was proven this, could be wrong

I'd dispute that.

A well run club would have budgeted properly, and had the thing paid off years ago.

Unfortunately we had Little Dick and the Wigmeister running our affairs, and hey presto, we're fucked.

Good work, lads.
