The Uzbek capital, Tashkent, is some experience. Because Stalin sent folk there as a punishment and created totally ridiculous borders for when the USSR broke up, it means the gene pool is kaleidescopic. As a result, the burds are unbelievable. Some look east Asian, others look middle eastern and some look Scandinavian. All slim too as the country's fucked economically and noone can afford to be fat.

 

Anyway, seems they're decent at fitba now too...

 

Looks an easy section, Asia, but if Scotland were transplanted into Asia would we qualify? (To qualify, would need to be top 4, or 5th and win a play-off vs some Central American shower)

Anyway, why do Kazakhstan play in UEFA? They'd have a much better chance in Asia. They probably rake in more money in group stages in Europe I guess but surely getting to the WC trumps that.

Kazakhstan playing in Europe is a farce, and I suspect it was a financial decision. They'd never been anywhere near qualifying in Asian section and, after Australia joined it, they had no chance. Getting the odd visit of Spain, France, Germany etc as good as it will get for them. Short-sighted for me. Fuck knows how UEFA let that happen.

 

Aye mate, was in Uzbekistan three and a half years ago for a holiday. Getting a visa was brutal, it's retained pretty much everything of the Soviet Union including horrific human rights record (they've been know to boil vocal opponents of the state alive) and for women , especially in rural areas, the tradition of bride-napping (literally kidnapping your wife to be) is very common.

 

But, if yer a tourist just looking for a cheap pint, and a good sniff of some incredible burds, then it's great. Every car's a taxi, police are everywhere all doing absolutely fuck all. Stunningly beautfiul cities, outside the capital which is a sprawling Soviet mess.

 

Islam is the religion but there aren't many orthodox punters, they get absolutely torn into the vodka.
