Commenting on who he would not like to play him in a film

The Formula One racing star Stirling Moss has made controversial comments over who he wants to play him in a biopic of his life.

Sir Stirling Moss caused controversy recently by saying he didn't want "a poofter or anything like that" to play him in a film.

The comments were made during an interview at the Motor Racing Hall of Fame and have been branded "offensive" and "homophobic" by Gay rights campaigners.

Moss added that he would like someone "masculine" like James Bond actor Daniel Craig to play him"I hope the actor would be masculine – not a poofter or anything like that. Perhaps the guy from Skyfall.”

The 83-year-old former racing driver tried to defend his comments last night. He told the Mirror "I think it would be difficult for someone of the other persuasion, who is homosexual, to take on the part, as I have spent my life driving cars and chasing girls.

"I’m sorry I’ve caused offence, but I’m disappointed anyone could be so narrow-minded as to take offence. It was not meant to cause any.”

Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell told the Daily Mail: "It is a shame that such a great British sporting hero has resorted to this crude homophobic language. Prejudice has no place in any sport.

"Surely Stirling Moss would want himself to be played by the best actor, regardless of their sexuality?"

The original comments came after Moss was told that Australian actor Chris Hemsworth was playing Formula One driver James Hunt in a new film called Rush.
