Niall Mcginn - Signs Extension Until 2016

Recommended Posts

Hopefully McGinn gets a massive reception at the game tomorrow! Best news this season.

He'll definitely get a brilliant reception tomorrow. Obviously a massive fans favourite for his form this season anyway, but i reckon the atmosphere will be brilliant now after this super news. Even more so if he scores an early goal too :)

This is the first time that I am more than content with a manager saying that a player already on our books will be a big summer signing. McGinn committing his future to the club makes a big difference as there is no way we would find a replacement on his level.

A cracking player and lad.

Yeah, makes a change from hearing the likes of "having Clark back fit will be like a new signing for us"......

Well, this is a Severinesque surprise.

This is a genuine Stellar signing, unlike the Chris Clark level of 'Stellar Signing'....

I imagine there's a Stavrum-style caveat in that contract somewhere.

I'm monumentally suspicious, but will concede that on the surface this is apparently great news to come home to.

Briliant news, but something the club should have been doing for years. as we did with Reynolds

We shouldn't be in the situation like we were with 7 first team players going out of contract at the end of the season. McInnes should be looking at his squad and offering everyone with a deal that is up at the end of the season a new contract, and if he doesn't think there up to it, let them know they've got 12 months to earn a new deal, instead of it being the last 5 games of the season these players try there best.

Without meaning to be disrespectful to the club I love what was the reason he is staying?

He is clearly a player who can earn more elsewhere after the spectacular season he had.

Maybe realises the grass isn't always greener? He was with Brentford for ages on Loan and maybe didn't fancy spending his career playing in a lower English Tier.

Maybe he wants to be at a club where he is one of the top players and is respected by the fans and idolised.

Maybe he's not a money grabbing arsehole like Fraser, Diamond and co.

Maybe he genuinely loves it up here.

All of the above I hope.

I'm usually pretty cynical in these instances, however, I do believe that Niall McGinn does actually love it here. Pretty much for the reasons explained above. Even at Christmas time he was making noises about how Aberdeen has given him a new lease of life and how much he was enjoying life and playing regular football.

Hopefully I won't be proved wrong.

Thank you

I can be cynical about these things but I also get the feeling he enjoys his time at Aberdeen :thumbup1:

That's it though, 1 season. he's what, 25? and he's had one good season. He knows what's good for him just now and that's staying put. Lap it up.

First off the lad went to uni before he turned full-time pro later on. So he's gonna have a bit more wit about him than the average footballer.

He's never played more than a handful of games in any season since turning full-time including being bit part on a season long loan at Brentford season before last. He's played 45 games this season and scored 22 goals the last thing at 25 years old he needs is going to a different club that plays him 16 times. Another season of being first pick and being involved (assists and goals) in another 25+ goals will stand him in great stead to go to another club and be first pick. Furthermore any player with any wit about him will know being on a free transfer is not that good an idea. If a team wants you they'll pay for you and if they've paid for you then there is far more chance they'll actually stick you in the team.

The lad has opened his second restaurant now too. Clearly far more switched on than the vast majority of the players to pass through Pittodrie. Good on him!

I think McGinn scored against every team in the SPL this season except celtic (I may be wrong on this) & was very prolific against Dundee with half a dozen goals. (no wonder they hate him :hysterical: we scored 7 goals against them & he got 6 of them)

Fantastic return & record in the SPL with a goal every 1.5 games :applause:

:crossfingers: he gets stuck into celtic next season also.
