daytripping
Been shopping about for a complete new bathroom, am stripping everything out, replacing shower for bath/overhead shower, stripping all tiles back etc. Want a built in toilet and cabinets under the sink, stuff like that. Anyone recommend any good companies that would do the complete job at a reasonable price, spoke to B & Q today but not sure if I'm going to go ahead with them. Thinking it might be cheaper to arrange the different trades myself but would rather someone just came in and did it all, getting sick of diy stuff to be honest. Any tips on the subject also gratefully received. Link to comment

jassb
Dayts min, I did something the same a few years ago. Got my bathroom totally stripped and replaced everything, fully tiled, etc. No way was i doing it myself. I tried one of those bathroom places in Rosemount, but laughed them out of the house when he came in to give me a quote, over ten grand if I remember correctly. Knew a plumber who had just replaced my boiler so gave him a shout and he did the lot for about two an a half grand I think it was. He did everything from supply to fit. Only other thing I had to do was organise the tiler. Good job done and stress free for me. Link to comment

Bought the suite from Plumbline and got a decent discount. Organised my own tiler and plasterer on homer rates. Link to comment
chief_wiggum
If you have a bigger area rather than tile you can get wet wall panels (not necessarily from theses folk ) http://www.wetwallsandceilings.co.uk/ saves a lot of time in tiling and looks smart when finished properly. We got a joiner that fitted this and was able to turn his hand to a bit of plumbing and electrical work (think most tradesmen with a bit of common sense can do a bit of everything) All I had to do was a line of tiles and paint a few walls. Don't go to these Bathroom specific places they will rip you off! Link to comment

Funny you should post that because I had a guy called John Barry fit a new boiler and change all piping and radiators last year and he was spot on, thought he just did plumbing but emailed him tonight around the same time I posted here, he says he'll do the whole project from start to finish, arrange all trades etc. B and Q have not quoted yet but the woman we spoke to suggested the price would be around £7k, he did all my central heating stuff for 3 and a half, and it was a shit load lot of work. Am feeling happier about it now, can't be arse with it anymore, just want it done. Anyone should think carefully before taking on a full house restoration, costs twice as much as you think and takes ten times longer than you think, never again! Link to comment

Cheers min, was reading online reviews tonight and they were not good, will still get the free planning service thing they provide, get the base units sizes and stuff like that from them. The guy i think I'll use said go look in the Plumb Center and pick the stuff and he'd buy at trade rates, sounds a plan. Will get a quote anyway. Link to comment

The decision has been made by the boss of the house, grey floor tiles, white wall tiles, I stay out of these kind of things! It has a few wet panels right now but they're all going. Link to comment
weemackie
Ive just finished doing mine. Was thinking of getting a company in to do everything but it costs a fucking bomb. It took longer doing stuff myself and getting homers etc but saved myself a fortune. Got a tiler fae that rated people website, boy done a cracking job Link to comment

I am currently undergoing a whole house restoration and have found that it is taking alot longer than expected! But I feel it will be all worth it after completion! I guess its different when I'm still staying with mum and dad until I move out into my first house. So theirs no particular rush for myself although sooner the better really Link to comment

Got two massive living rooms, the plan was one would be one where I could chill and watch sport and the other they could watch soaps and crap, since I did the sport room to perfection I can't get rid of them!! Plan on making the other living room better than mine so I get peace, get that room, the bathroom then the hall done and I'm done, drive built as well but that may be next year now, nearly done anyway. I am also having what I would call a "sports room" where I can watch any sport I like when I like (not a chance I'm being told i can't watch sport whenever i want in my own house). Iv had to take out a massive supporting wall with shitty cupboards to make a open plan kitchen/ living area which has taken a ridiculous amount of time. Im just in the process of getting a plastering to tidy the plasterboard up before getting a mate to fit kitchen. I actually had a April/May moving in date as a target and I'm way off that due to trade men being here 1 day fucking off for a week and coming again for 1 day before fucking off for a few days instead of just being here for a solid couple of weeks to get everything completed! Like I said before though it will be worth it in the end. Good luck with you too. Link to comment

If you didn't have one, at that point you would have had to ask the Council to issue you a letter of comfort for the world, which would cause you a lot of time, expense and hassle, so you done the right thing waiting on it. The Boofon
If you get a plumber make sure he's Corgi registered. You won't be insured otherwise if the pipes leak and you drown. Insurance companies will poo poo any claim you might submit thereafter. That's correct. Someone on here took a chance and installed a washing machine waste pipe on their own the other month here without using a Corgi registered plumber. Fine if you know what you're doing but not worth the bother later if things go wrong. Link to comment
