Glasgow Is Looking To Rebrand

Glasgow is ok on non match days, good range of shops and places to eat.

The people I've found to be not very nice but it's the same as anywhere, you do get a lot of good folk and a lot of wankers, juts depends who you bump into. Got off the train a few years back and jumped in a taxi and asked to go to the passport office, the cunt of a driver moaned like fuck, he'd been in the rank for hours and I want to go a mile, blah blah blah, won't go into detail but he'd picked the wrong person to pull that kind of shyte on, I had to walk and ask directions for the last half of the journey but he never got a penny. :)

But on the other hand I've always found the bar, hotel and restaurant staff to be spot on, really nice people in my experience.

Sauchiehall Street is the ugliest, most run-down looking main street I think I've seen yet, outside of probably El Nino in Mexico.. and I think that place qualifies as 'Ghetto' according to the UN.

It's no worse than Union Street. I would say less vacant shops, bars, restaurants etc than I saw last time I was on Union Street.

Oh, shit, it is infinitely worse than Union Street, even after years of Union Street declining to some sort of Blackpoolesque parody of its own former glory.

The granite of Union Street (aside from that ridiculous-looking sandstone church) is a stand-out. Sauchiehall Street, by comparison, appears to be made out of cheap, reclaimed brick. It looks bloody awful,

I'm talking from an aesthetic point of view. Shops can always be opened and closed, but the look of the street is largely an unchanging thing without some major reconstruction.

And from an aesthetic point of view Sauchiehall Street doesn't feature in the same league as Union Street .

Why the f4ck does Glasgow need a "brand" anyway, and who is paying for it? I may have missed it but dont think Aberdeen has a brand, of feel the need to "rebrand" itself every few years at vast expense.

Whatever the f4ck they choose one things for sure is that us folk up North will be subsidising it.

How about "Glasow isn't working" along with a picture of a dole q?

Why don't they nuke Glasgow?

Positives

1) Clean up the gene pool.

2) Cut crime expenditure.

3) Actual use missile test.

4) Wait a few years for the radiation levels to subside, then open it as a post apocalyptic museum. Like how Kiev have made Chernobyl a tourist destination.

5) National stadium gets moved to the nation's capital.

6) The OF get their much anticipated removal from Scotland (vapourised).

Negatives

1) Diversion for traffic around blast site for those travelling down the West of the country.

Glasgoow the 2nd city of the great empire reduced to being the mink capital of western Europe.

What a come down.

Manchester has that crown

Obsessed.

Very similar cities tbh. Both historic powerhouses which have have recently been regenerated,

Like many cavities in British, and Rotterdam near me

Except Sauchiehall Street is Glasgows equivalent of Aberdeens George Street, its not the Main Street, Buchanan Street is, and whilst it doesn't have a single shop vacancy, and is absolutely buzzing, and more retail space being added, Aberdeens Uniion Street is divebombing, with vacancies and pound shops.

These kind of rebranding exercises really are a load of shite however, lets spend money on how we refer to the place rather than spending it on trying to address some of its issues.

On a Monday morning especially, the non-pedestrianised stretch of Sauchiehall Street between Charing X & North Campbell Street resembles a scene out of 28 Days Later. There is shit and puke and kebabs and other weekend detritis everywhere. That being said, it always has a buzz about it. But Glasgow's about much more than Sauchiehall Street. In general terms, on a one-on-one basis, the people there are more warm and friendly than the average north-easterner, and far less conceited too. I put the conceited thing down to education. Uneducated people don't get a job in Glasgow, they end up being bums that you steer clear of. Uneducated people in Aberdeen get a job in Weatherford or wherever starting off at £30k a year and don't need to grow up.
