Neil Lennon: How To Win Friends And Influence People

It's a cracking save.

It's a good save but not save of the season.

He seen it for ages, had a good bit of time. The ball was in perfect position for him to get hand to it (& let's not forget he's about 9ft tall) & he made it look better by doing the simple thing of turning it over the bar.

Yes a great save but certainly not save of the season.

The ref gave a goal kick so it was an incredible save.

Scottish Cup final: Celtic deserve more credit, says Neil Lennon

Neil Lennon hopes Celtic will get more credit after they completed the double by lifting the Scottish Cup following a 3-0 victory over Hibernian at Hampden.

The Bhoys manager believes the financial demise of rivals Rangershas overshadowed his side's achievements.

"People have nipped away at what we've done over the years, the tainted titles, no competition," he said.

"And they've missed what's really on the pitch. We've got a really special young team here."

Celtic eased to their 36th Scottish Cup final triumph thanks to two first-half goals from Gary Hooper and a late third from Joe Ledley.

"They should get the respect they deserve now because they've been fantastic," Lennon told BBC Scotland.

"They've been at the sharp end all season - this is their 59th game - and they looked as fresh as daisies."

Lennon has yet to settle his own futurewith major shareholder Dermot Desmond and chief executive Peter Lawwell but hopes to remain in charge next season.

"Mr Desmond's here, Peter's here, maybe we'll have a wee chat later," he said.

"It's always the same this time of the season. I just wanted to get through today and we've done that.

"You never tire of days like this. To win the double as a manager and as a player is pretty special.

"It's going to be hard to emulate that next season."

Lennon admitted that, despite his side going into the game as strong favourites, the prospect of matching the achievement of his former manager at Celtic, Martin O'Neill, had added to the tension.

"I feel great now," he said. "I felt awful all day. I was really nervous, the stomach churning, butterflies, all that sort of thing.

"Just the weight of expectancy and history really and I knew how much it meant to Hibs to win the Cup today.

"I really wanted to get over the line with this one. That's four trophies in three years.

"Martin did that, so I'm happy with that. To emulate what he did in his first three years is pretty special to me."

Lennon described the performances of Hooper, strike partner Anthony Stokes, who set up both of Hooper's goals, and captain Scott Brown as "immense".

And of his team's display, he said: "I'm really proud. They were quality."

The Celtic manager had a few words of consolation for Hibs, whose best chance came early on through Eoin Doyle as the Edinburgh side sought to end an 111-year wait to win the Scottish Cup.

"Doyle had a great header saved in the first three minutes," added Lennon, stressing that the result had not been a foregone conclusion.

"You've got to give credit to the Hibs supporters. They got behind their team all day and, even at 3-0, they were fantastic."

He's right though, i mean a team who cost more than the rest of the SPL combined and get decisions every time should get respect

The guy is a fucking balloon

I think his record as Celtic manager is pretty poor when you consider his record at Hampden losing cup games to Ross County, St Mirren and Hearts (off the top of my head). Would be interesting to see what his record is in Semi Finals and Cup Finals at Hampden.

Their season highlight was getting through to the last 16 of the Champions League and getting more money, putting them even further apart from any other team in Scotland. The only reason they managed to finish 2nd in their group was because they could focus all their efforts on the 6 Champions League games because they were always going to stroll the league, whilst Benfica and Spartak Moscow weren't in a position to do that. They then proceeded to get absolutely battered by a Juventus side that absolutely strolled through both legs.

Lennon should be judged on his ability when he punches above his weight. Todays game and the league can be discounted. However, Celtic in Europe actually punched above their weight. Even against Juventus, the score line flattered the Italians.

Hate the cunt, but he's done very well this year. Credit however, should be given to John Park, that tremendous scout that found all the overseas players.

They get into the Champions League most years cause non of the other Scottish sides can get in and they're usually seeded. They were bound to get lucky at some stage and get through to the last 16 as runners up of their group. Like I said, they managed to do that this year because they could focus all their efforts on the 6 CL games because they had no competition domestically after the huns died whilst Benfica and Spartak Moscow weren't in a position to do that. I watched the first leg against Juventus, where Juve just never pissed about and killed the tie after 3 mins then absolutely strolled the rest of the game in first gear. 0-3 was definitely a true reflection of the game.

I honestly don't think Celtic were far behind Juventus. But I thought Benfica were far too good for them over the two games.

Regardless Lennon was a success in Europe this term, and the fact he's a bitter cunt shouldn't cloud this.

Can't agree with that Cow. Celtic put so much effort into the first leg but they were severely lacking in quality. Juve created the 3 best chances of the match, were clinical infront of goal and they limited Celtic to very few clear cut chances. Was the perfect away performance and it didn't happen by luck.

He has very little self awareness, lets start every season with every team on the same budget and see how he gets on.

Like racing a push bike in your ferrari and bragging you won.

But the windows were open on the Ferrari which ruins the aerodynamics & makes the achievement so much more impressive.

All this crap in the media about Lennon being linked with jobs doon south will never happen. Neil Lennon i don't think will leave Celtic too soon, he's got it made at Celtic he's got the monopoly & will probably win the league every season until the Huns come back to challenge. He's garaunteed CL football, so if the odious little minker was to move to Everton, Stoke etc. would struggle to do anything with smaller budgets etc.

Neil Lennon says he is "baffled" by the fact his Celtic side have to play in a Champions League qualifier despite reaching the last 16 last season.

The Bhoys are currently in Belfast preparing for a Champions League second qualifying round first leg against Cliftonville on Wednesday evening.
The game comes just 53 days after their final game of last season, the 3-0 Scottish Cup final win over Hibernian, and just two weeks into their pre-season preparations.
Despite lifting their 44th SPL title last May, Lennon's men must begin their European adventure at this stage - one stage earlier than in 2012 - due to Scotland's position in UEFA's country ranking list.
It is all the more galling for the club given their memorable run to the knock-out stages of last season's competition, which included a famous win over Barcelona at Parkhead in November.
Lennon feels their exploits last campaign should be recognised by Europe's governing body with a later entry into this year's competition.
"I'm baffled that after beating Barcelona and reaching the last 16 we have an extra qualifier. It has to be looked at by UEFA," said the 42-year-old in the Daily Record.
"I don't think it's fair considering the season we had and the amount of games we played. We could be out by next week.
"We are champions of our country and reached the last 16 last season. There should be some dispensation for clubs who do well the previous season. It's really harsh we're playing so early."

His argument here seems to be Celtic should get a pass to the group stage just because.

I agree with him. They won the league, therefore should be straight into groups in my book. If UEFA insist on having 3/4 teams per country then they should be forced to qualify, not the actual champions. Same applies to any other nation too.

You can finish 3rd in the EPL and walk straight into the group stages, it's a farce!

I don't often agree with Lennon but I do there. Arsenal straight into the champs league, or only 1 qualifier, despite being the champions of NOTHING since 2005. It's a joke.

The rich getting richer... Happening domestically and in Europe. It's boring

That should be how it works but it doesn't.

Their own lacklustre performance in Europe before last season are to blame.
