Stoney
Osbourne was shite at right back, much better at centre back where his lack of pace wasnt an issue, plus he could just feed the ball to midfield. Anderson also shite at right back, infact probably the worst out of the lost. Jacks best in midfield - dont think there is much point in arguing about that again. Shaghnessy had a super season but again, was much better in more central role in defence. Link to comment

Byrne Baby Byrne
I agree most of them were shite - but they were all better than Magennis!!When did Shaughnessy play in a central role? You love Osbourne Link to comment
Tommy
he may be better in midfield but I'd rather have either him or Shaughnessey at right back ahead of Magennis next season!Shaughnessey as a central defender has great potential, not sure as a full back though. But back on topic, as soon as Langfield has time to think we are in trouble andfor that reason a decent goalkeeper is a vital signing before pre season starts. 1 Link to comment
King Street Loon
Anybody who has seen magennis play knows the confusion he adds when coming off the bench, defenders dont have a clue how to deal with him, Well worth keeping for that reason alone, That and the fact he was probably our best right back this season! He confuses his own team mates as well.Well worth throwing into the North sea for that reason alone. Osbourne was shite at right back, much better at centre back where his lack of pace wasnt an issue, plus he could just feed the ball to midfield. Shaughnessy has been far better at RB then Magennis. (yes, I think his future is at CB)Jack was better when he played there before getting injured.Anderson I'll give you. But at no time was Magennis our best RB this season.Never.Ever.Ever. Link to comment
King Street Loon
Oh aye. And yes Langfield should be binned. Provided we deal with more pressing areas of the pitch first. Link to comment
K-9
'All hot about'? Deary me K-9, catch a grip of yerself! I gave an assessment of my thoughts on the player. That's all. No attitude, just my honest opinion. You cited a video (from a highlight reel) where his performance was completely unremarkable, while further highlighting one even less remarkable 3 yard pass. You also followed it up with a little dig - which was the key point. Your comment - regarding my perspective of Magennis - I interpreted as an attempt to challenge the opinion I put forward. As though evidence from that short passage of play should make a mockery of my critical assessment of Magennis' time at the club on the whole. If it was, then it was a terrible example. Not only the time disproportion - a few seconds of evidence versus few years of a career. If you were looking to cherry-pick evidence from highlight reels (bear in mind you could probably make Darren Mackie look like Ronaldo from an edited highlight reel), you could have at least used the Celtic match. You cannot possibly be suggesting that the SPL highlight edit of Saturdays game could refute my assessment of Magennis. That would be absolutely absurd. I'm pretty sure you understand this, that you are not stupid and therefore I must have misinterpreted your comments. So what exactly was your point? I'll make sure I turn my monitor upside down when I read your reply. Wow, chill. The upside down thing was little joke. Link to comment

I'm perfectly serene. I just enjoy debating football. Particularly on topics like Josh Magennis, which seem to divide our support right down the middle. 1 Link to comment
Karl Fletcher
Ah well, good for him. If he's on more than £600 - £700 a week I'd be surprised. As long as Derek doesn't consider him as someone who should be a regular starter I'm happy, he's a cheap option to have on the bench who is capable of making an impact on the odd occasion. buchanskii
Good news that it's only 12 months. Use him sparingly as an impact sub to ruffle a few feathers. How much goals did Smith & McManus score in the u20's? Would much rather give them starts over Josh. Link to comment

Dynamo
If he's a starter in our 'strongest 11' I'll start to worry but I can't see him being signed on as anything other than back up. Everyone's getting their panties in a twist over not very much at all. He's not a high earner like say Hughes, he's still only 22 too. The players moving on and being retained is good, we've got rid of a load of duffers, Magennis being the only duffer being kept on. I'm pleased there's going to be some replacements coming in instead of the easy option which was to offer them all new deals. Link to comment
StandFree1982
AFC-Chat is a pit of negativity right now! Langfield is crapMagennis is crap<insert new signing target> is crapNew strip is crap Where are the happy clappers when you need them?!?! Thank fuck for McGinn signing a new contract or i'd have the Samaritans making a thread for counselling. Of course we still have Tups corner. Anyways,... Langfield is shite, but he doesn't need abuse after games where he's kept a clean sheet.I quite like Magennis as a player. He's got something about him.The strip is indeed awful...regardless of the colour of the shorts. In all seriousness, who actually buys AFC shorts over the age of 16? Link to comment

Sonoftherock
I've moved all the post regarding Magennis from the Langfield thread in case anyone was wondering where they'd gone.... Bit what if that leads to the restricting of a younger player like Dec McManus? If we sign a new striker I can see him being loaned out to a Forfar or Alloa or the likeHaving said that, it didn't do Nicky Low any harm I'm just sick of us scraping around the bottom six with players who aren't good enough to move us forward. IMO settling for limited players Magennis is a huge part of the reason that we've struggled to move forward in recent years. As for McManus. There is no use in him playing for youth team anymore. He's already proved himself there. He can't do any more than he has this year. Either send him out on loan or start playing him in the first team ahead of the likes of Josh Magennis. If he's not up to it, then move him on. Same with Cammy Smith. I'm a bit worried that up until now he seems to have been shunted around, filling in here and there. The boy looks like he can play. Lets decide what his position is and play him there. The worst thing that could happen is that he continues as bit part part player, making the odd cameo in various different roles, failing to bed into the team and then disappearing off the radar after failing to progress. At least give them a crack. We'll go nowhere with Josh playing a leading role. 3 Link to comment
