Doggy Bags

Recommended Posts

would you consider asking for a doggy bag to take home leftovers from a restaurant? or no?

or it depends on which establishment you're dining in? or if you're with someone or not?

i don't. under any circumstances. if i can't finish what i've ordered, it just stays on the plate.

(i'd have made this a multiple choice poll if i knew how. sorry. :( )

how about yourself?

I do this all the time. I'm a greedy cunt, so I'll usually finish my own meal and then have my gfs leftovers put in a container for me to polish off later that night.

It's a no from me.

Yanks have no qualms about doggy bags though.

Was in a restaurant last night and this huge guy -must have been 30+ stone - in a bright orange t shirt asked for a doggy bag despite as far as I could see there only being a rickle of bones on his plate.

Nae wonder he looked like a blimp

The sort of cunt that would be asking for one in an all you can eat buffet place. Although if itbwas just bones, maybe in this casenwere for his (no doubt also obese) dog.

When I was in Mexico, place we were staying was al a carte rather than usual all you can eat buffets you get in all inclusive resorts. Was quite fancy grub, so the portions were pretty small, so all the lard ass yanks were moaning about this & order two or three of every course, each.

i don't think they'll let you take a doggy back from an all-you-can-eat kind of place, will they? :o

and i agree Foster14. i'd always finish whatever was on my plate as a guest at someone's house. it would be incredibly rude not to.

but at a restaurant? meh. if it's too much, it's too much. if Cheesepipes has finished licking his plate, he's welcome to have a go at mine. but i'm not taking a doggy bag home.

Never, all the grippy folk up there will be all over it though, :caught:

When I was living in Germany, we used to eat at a spot known fondly as "the big schnitzel place", I got half way through my schnitzel bolognese before I put my face in my hands in defeat. I recovered only to find everything foiled up and ready to go so I obliged.

Lol, I highly doubt it, but I bet some greedy bastards out there fill their plate when they are finally full and then chance their arm asking for it to be bagged for them. This is the world we live in!

We all know how much you love a big schnitzel. You used to be able to handle a large one, Germany has made you weak!

There have been plenty times when I have paid for her supper and she has hardly touched it, so have asked for it to be put into a doggy bag for me to take home. I have spent the best part of £20 so why not? I can't stand waste. Also think about the people who are starving and less fortunate than ourselves. I saw a crazy stat on twitter about how much food we waste and it is ridiculous, can't remember what percentage it was but it made me quite angry.

if it happens frequently, how about ordering half-portions?

I agree with you, hate unnecessary waste as well. I only buy what I know I will use & if some meat or whatever is in the fridge and due to expire, I either cook it or bung it in the freezer. Really no need for folk to be chucking away loads of perfectly good stuff, no wonder they are saying there will be major food shortages in the not too distant future...

I often ask for a doggy bag, especially in Indian or Chinese. Chuck the rice and have the leftovers with chips the next night. Remember one place bringing a form to sign so that if I got food poisoning I wouldn't blame them.

Been in Cape Town a few times and you don't even have to ask, it's offered. Seems to be the done thing there to take home any leftover food for the housekeeper.

Pash, tell her to pay for her own meal and problem solved, bet she won't order food she's got no intention of finishing. Women work, have their own disposable income and are meant to be equals in this day and age.

it's the same difference if you're married/living with someone, is it not? regardless of who's paid, it all comes from the same pot.

Suppose most do it like that. Just sounded like it was his money and not hers.. Just saying when someone's paying for something themselves, they won't be so wasteful.

I took my Gran to the Ferryhill House Hotel for lunch recently. She's 90 years old and nae got the biggest appetite. Anyway, she had her Cullen Skink, but only managed a tiny bit of the sandwich that she had ordered with it. She asked the lassie if she could take it home. The waitress then came out with some tin foil and told us to wrap it up ourselves. Something to do with if they took it away into the kitchen they would be preparing it again - the kitchen staff don't want to be responsible for food that has been sitting out for a while. Didn't bother my Gran, she scoffed the rest for her tea when she got home.

I very rarely take something home. If I haven't finished it, that's because I didn't like it enough. I don't usually leave something on a plate.

Only time I take food from a restaurand is if I asked for that up front. Ordering a sit in meal with food to go after I'm done, and only do that at certain restaurants where it's ok.

There's a great little cafe/restaurant I go to in Brisbane that does certain US southern/midwest foods. Get a pulled pork plate (fnarr fnarr) meal and then have a Philly Cheesesteak made to go for a quick zap and later scoffage.

Taking half eaten meals home with me though? No thanks.
