Explain how a handful of teens and one tosser with his top off jumping up and down on the spot in their own little corner of the ground added anything to the atmosphere.

That's how. By getting people involved and providing spectacle.

Given the moribund nature of most of our support (of which you and most of the other clowns responding here appear to be prime examples) it's a miracle they managed to get so many to pull the one way and it was great while it was there and we're sorely shit for its absence.

Was that it? You didn't like other people working together? Fucking interfering with your sweetie rustling. And then when they did you didn't feel like you could belong so suddenly the Red Ultras were "elitist" or whatever other shit people said?

Aye well, be happy. The atmosphere is stellar since they ended up turfed out of there and disbanded.

Which one of those wasn't a 'big game'? The Ultras were fantastic when it came to producing great displays, very impressive. They weren't any good for the atmosphere during the game. If they hadn't started the song themselves then they didn't bother joining in.

You keep telling me what's happening & why I act the way I do from a desk chair in Australia though. Brilliant.

When did the Ultras start?

Best atmosphere I was ever involved in 6th May 1995...

Mezz worked hard to get what he wanted, he provided some incredible displays, what let Mezz down badly were the little fuckers that jumped on board and ruined it for him, pretty much. Toff of a bloke, just a pity the little cunts were...in theory, little cunts.

Atmosphere at Pittodrie has always had its moments - but few and far between - but has generally been on a downward spiral into "shut the fuck up seagulls I'm trying to listen to the game" since the 90s at least.

No idea when they started but I signed up to their forum in 2005 and them proper in 2006 and it was 2010 when they finally gave up. So they were around at least 5 years and there was more spark and interest at games in those few years than the entire 10 before or everything since I'd say.

Really... you're saying that they created no atmosphere? That's the best you've got. Because there's no sound on a static picture there's no atmosphere?

And that shit about them not singing if others started? As I guessed, the "Red Ultras were elitist" bullshit runs strong in you.

Oh and you pulled out the peach of the I'm not there so can't comment too. Well done buddy, you're on super form. :checkit:

I said during the game. As I said explain to me how 10 folk jumping about in the bottom corner of section Y added anything to the atmosphere? When everyone else was singing why were they not? When they were singing it was almost always their own songs which no-one knew.

Their displays were fantastic and when they had the banners up with the names of all the poor guys who had passed away on the helicopter that was a really nice touch.

I didn't say you couldn't comment you ignoramus.

Good post Roberto.

The drummer boy in the shades who was convinced he was an Italian ultra

seemed to kick off the beginning of the end.

Great displays, some real good people then some beauts appeared.

Idiot. That's the guy with his top off I was going on about.

What let the Ultras down (in my opinion A Don in Oz) was that they were happy to receive all the praise etc but couldn't handle any criticism at all, even that of a constructive nature.

I find the criticism of the RU just bizarre.

They seem to be guilty of not joining in when others sang, I agree its a bit weird, and they did seem to have a few fannies in them, but some of the displays were superb.

At least they had enthusiasm and energy, and a bit of passion. Theres a bloke beside me in the SS, who barely claps if we score, he certainly doesn't cheer, or smile, or sing, I have no idea what he's doing at the games, give me the RU weirdos over weirdos like that any day of the week!

Displays were shit hot.

The attempts at raising at atmosphere initially worked until the petty as fuck carry on between the two sides of the upper RDU.

Support up there was generally divided with one half flat out refusing to join in with what the other was singing.

Generally this happened at away games too with the ultras trying to start things from the front and totally ignoring the bulk of the support to try and get flags on TV.

That couple with the fact that we have driven away quite a lot of our hardcore support over the years hasnt helped.

If they did care that much they would have ditched the ultras banner and returned in attempt to unite the support.

To this day i dont understand why we felt the need to broadcast what supports club we belonged to at home games, They were no more passionate than the pittodrie bar or gothenberg reds!

To be fair that could be me. I'm nae the most animated at Pittodrie.

Me neither, but seriously, I'm sure this bloke isn't you(do you sit near Block V, row Z, 157), theres not that much to get animated about, but this guy isn't just not animated, he's virtually comatose!!!! :)

I'm actually praying that this season he's decided to move elsewhere, somewhere where there's other comatosees! The Main Stand would make a bit more sense!

To be fair, that's how ultra type groups operate at Italian league games and it works.

I had no problem with the ultras. I'd rather a bunch of bams tried to create an atmosphere as opposed to folk moaning about bams creating an atmosphere.
