Thistle Beat Thistle

Recommended Posts

Hearts not managing to make much progress. Thought they'd do better in closing the gap a bit better than they've managed so far.

Forgetting about their -15 start

They've now lost ground to everyone in the league except St Mirren & Killie.

Dead level with St Mirren in terms of GD & points scored but have played a game more than St Mirren (not that that matters because I can't see St Mirren making use of their ga´me in hand).

They started well but have gone to shite

Caley very much robbed by officials.

Caley should have been level going into half time but the officials fucked up, they didn't even have a clue why they chopped off the goal, so they came up with a lie, he touched it twice. Well why not flag at the time? Official fuck up.

The linesman waved away the Partick defender who came out to defend the taken corner. Had he not, then I assume it would have been allowed to continue.

Why didn't the lino flag instantly then?

Draper said 'I've taken ahead'...then ran away taking the defender with him. I didn't see the lino making any signals to the Partick defender. I also believe Draper when he said the linesman told me yeah that is fine.

Foran runs with the ball and the lino allows it...the corner comes in, and comes out to Foran who smashes it in...STILL no signal by the linesman. Linesman starts to run back to the half way line, notices the ref and decides to flag.

The linesman had no idea what he was doing IMO. He fucked up well and truly.

I think Draper should have floored the cunt!

Puns aside, the linesman has his left hand up motioning away the Partick defender.

Just at 2.10 in the highlights you can see the linesman with his arm up telling the Partick defender to back off. Why he does this I don't know because had he let it go there and then, there wouldn't have been an issue.

Case for the defence:

Doran touching it twice is what they must be referring to, because they have said that Draper's touch did not re-start play.

I remember Alan McLaren scoring from an indirect free-kick for Rangers in the mid 90s and it shouldn't have stood - the debate at the time being the ball has to travel at least its full circumference before the dead-ball situation is acknowledged as being taken.

Statto moment coming up: Presuming that that rule is still in place, the circumference of a size 5 football is 24 inches, the radius of the corner arc is 36 inches and it didn't look to me like the ball travelled less than half the distance of the corner arc, and certainly less than two-thirds.

Case for the prosecution:

The linesman fucked up by giving Thistle the impression that Draper hadn't taken the corner and the referee fucked up by thinking that it had and then changing his mind.

Your case for the defence...

Why didn't the linesman raise the flag straight away then? Why did he wait for the referee to start to run over BEFORE raising the flag?

My case for the defence is balanced by my case for the prosecution Robo. The linesman didn't have a clue what was going on, the referee has seemingly trusted his judgement and then thought "hold up a minute here". The officials (both of them) cocked up, make no mistake. But I reckon the correct decision was made in the end.

The rule with regard to bouncing the ball is that the keeper has to be in full control and so long as any challenge is not deemed dangerous, it's fair game. It is an urban myth that a goalkeeper can't be challenged for the ball. Lee Glover scored a goal for Nottingham Forest over 20 years ago after heading the ball out of the hands of a keeper (I think it might've been Andy Dibble).

EDIT: It wasn't Lee Glover, it was Gary Crosby:

Law 12 in the FIFA rules state 'the ball is deemed to be under the control of the keeper while it is being bounced'

If that's the rule then fair enough. I haven't seen the Marshall incident either. My own view is that keepers bouncing the ball is a throwback to the old "4 steps" rule which is now obsolete. I wouldn't personally consider that it is unreasonable or unfair for a keeper to be tackled in such a way if it isn't dangerous. When that rule was changed they should've changed this one too. Keepers get far too much protection. I reckon they should spice things up a bit with keepers like no throwing and no kicking from hand.

Haha. Never been a peno man, can just about handle pen. Picky cunt I know.

Agree about the self-preservation among referees and their ilk. Willie Young used to be on Sportsound years ago and would NEVER disagree with a referee's decision. Linesmen are the worst though - they haven't a clue. Very often you'll see the ball cross the line and they'll quiver with the flag down, until the referee gestures which way.
