King Street Loon
That's us now played every team in the league once and we're sitting 2nd in the league 6 points off if the tattie munchers who have a game in hand. We move onto cup business on Wednesday, but how does everyone feel the round of games has gone?Anyone any complaints, or are we content with the work McInnes and his team have done thus far. I'm happy enough, there are some areas that worry me. The striking dept is still a cause for concern.Midfield and defence I'm happy with and I feel we've coped well in the face of injuries to that areas.Goalkeeper also still concerns me somewhat.Langfield has shown improvements this season, but the old worry of a mistake rearing its ugly head came back to haunt him. Luckily it didn't cost us a goal and another clean sheet was gained. McInnes also has shown that he's not afraid to make tough decisions and makes clever substitutions to change games. Saturday a case in point I believe. Overall I'm happy enough, we're in a cup QF, second in the league and it could have been better if Wed beaten a poor Hearts team and played like we can against County. 7.5/10 for me so far. minijc
I think the way McInnes has went about everything has been great, he's made a couple of mistakes but nothing seems to be stick, he seems to regroup then we go again which is a positive sign, also got the makes of a good side, come xmas we may have some cash to add a couple of players, keeper or LB/RB. Stoney
Brilliant so far, enjoyed watching them and a marked improvement on the shite we have had to endure since we stopped playing football in 2007. Only down point was the fuck up between clangers and anderson vs celtic, league table could be very different had they not fucked up. Link to comment
Foster14
It has been bizarre. We've beaten the 3 better teams that we've played away, but lost 8 points against the worst 3 teams we've played away. Defensively we're solid, and I don't think that is coming at the expense of an attacking presence. The unfortunate thing is that we don't seem to have a striker who we can depend to score goals and be in the right positions to score goals. I've not seen enough of us to comment much further than that really. The league must be really poor though, as we are currently sitting second (maybe third depending on the rearranged ICT game) and I don't think I've seen us play particularly well this year. Pretty much spot on. Would like to see us be more ruthless, we won't keep missing the number of chances we have been and still go on winning games. Link to comment
Red Dragon
Dropped points vs Hearts, St Mirren and County really sticks in the craw as we should be up there with Celtic. Other than that, a solid first round of fixtures, some good football played and showed we have strength in depth to deal with injuries. I feel we'll get stronger as the season goes on so expect to make real progress this year and push all the way for 2nd. and a cup has our name on it. Link to comment
StandFree1982
I feel we've done well without really getting into our stride. The losses against Hearts and Ross County have kept us on our feet this season and shows there is still work to be done. The main difference between Aberdeen this season and previous seasons is we're not conceding as many as we have done and we've cut out the stupid defensive mistakes. We are grinding out results where in the last few seasons we'd have lost. Link to comment

Huntlysheep
Well done so far to Deek & the team, Rome wisna built in a day but so much better than we've been for years. If McGinn starts firing again think we'll wrap up 2nd, let's hope we break our cup hoodoo this season too, i'm so optimistic this season. Well Done to Deek & the boys again. COYR!!! Link to comment

Yup, we seem to have a drive and a belief we are going to win, plus we are having a go at teams. the amount of 0-0 draws last season was a joke. Link to comment
spamspamspam
Its amazing the difference a few months and a change at the top can make. This isn’t to distract from McInnes at all, I think, so far, he’s done a great job and the improvements on the field are there for all to see. I also think though that George Yule has made a massive difference both in his backing of the team and new management and also his willingness to shake things up from top to bottom. The youth system has been revamped, we now have real team analysis and sports science at the club. He’s working hard on the training ground fiasco we’ve had to deal with for years and he is pushing for success instead of settling for mediocrity. I think both have had a massive influence on the improvements we’ve made so far this season and if this is how the pair have started I’m really looking forward to seeing how we progress over the next couple of seasons. Hopefully, by the time the new filth arrive in the league we’ll be strong enough as a team and club to stick it to them and keep them out of Europe for a few years longer. Overall I’m delighted the way things are going though both on and off the pitch this season. There’s still room for improvement and a lot of room at that. Things like the new stadium still have to be pushed forward and while Milne has the most creative of accountants on the case we’re still losing money every year and still servicing debt we really have to move off the books for good. However when we have a team playing football for a change, a manager that has not put a word wrong in the press, commands respect from his team and actually knows a bit about the game and we can see that they are also trying to make improvements to all the support staff and facilities available to them then bar Milne winning a massive Euro-millions roll over and sticking the full £165m into the club there isn’t much more we can ask for or expect from a club in the position it is. Red Dragon
Very pleased with how things have gone considering we've missed 2/3 our first choice central midfield for several games, our best striker from last season hasn't hit form yet and that we've apparently been playing a big lump up front for most games. It's a good feeling when we're doing well and knowing there's betetr to come from us, the fact that we've learned how to grind wins out has also helped. Partick and Hearts at home coming up, a big part of our problem in recent years has been struggling when teams park the bus when they come up to Pittodrie so six points from that double header would be a boost. Having watched the Killie v Hearts highlights, the bus they might park is only half finished and permeable! Shocking defending throughout which gives me great confidence that we'll avenge the defeat earlieri n the season with style. Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
There seems to be a change in club attitude, whether that is Yule's influence, McInnes's feel good factor or even as a result of everyone at the club getting a shake following/during their tacit support of the sevco fioasco something seems to have changed for the better. Fine by me. McInnes has been a breath of fresh air. Good that he's been prepared to gamble at least twice I can think of and go for the 3pts rather than take the safe draws (and not get them) that we've had to sit through in the past. Signings are encouraging as well. GK - Fairly sure when Spam*3's euromillions arrive he'll get shot of JL but he does a job, poorly. Saturday yet another example. I have no confidence for big games and I don't think its helping the middle defence which has a problem with Anderson's experience versus Hector's ability, and legs. Defence. Fairly settled - but settled on a basic understanding that we don't do full backs. Shaunessy is a converted CH as is Considine and Robertson is a work in progress. Just makes me nervous, that's all. Less exposed of course when we're taking the game to them just as we did on saturday right from the off - another pleasing feature of McInnes' side. Midfield. 3 years ago we would have dreamt of this midfield. Or had this midfield and played them all out of position, at right back. Up front. I'll take balls in hand here and say I'm a bit of a zola fan. That is, when we play a useless big c*nt they have to move two of their useless big c*nts to mark him. Result - more room for McGinn and Hayes (the latter needing to do a hell of a lot more with it). Vernon looking more like an impact sub which suits me fine. EDIT: special mention to Pawlett as well for attacking runs and stopping the diving pish. Bench. We now have a bench. Nuff said. Crowds. the wrappers they are a rustling... Link to comment
SkyeDon
County and Hearts games were particularly annoying, we could have been in an even better position. All things considered though, we've been solid at the back and we've had the quality in reserve to cope with the obligatory injuries. We should look to be more cutting in attack and I think McInnes is still searching for his preferred strike force/option. Win on Wednesday though and it really will be a solid start to the season. ferlaytio
A bit like Chelsea we are sitting second without really getting into our stride. Can't complain with that. More to come from this team. Only Dundee Utd and possibly St Johnstone look to be our challengers for 2nd place. (Don't see any real quality or depth in the Well & Caley squads so expect them to drop plenty points throughout the long season). It pains me to say it but had we signed Kris Boyd pre-season we would be some team! He is exactly what we are missing up top. Zola and Vernon simply not good enough and painfully immobile. Simonsen in goals would have also been a shrewd signing. So....no real complaints. We are second and play a cup QF on Wed yet haven't really played that well. If we hit our stride we will walk second. COYR Link to comment
spamspamspam
Boyd is a lazy cunt. Anyways, we've done well - McInnes thus far gets the pass marks. I think I'd rather have this lazy cunt though that Zola. I'm still undecided on him. Times he looks like he could be a really good signing, others he looks dire. Looking at the results and form if we had won against Ross county and won the 2 draws we'd be sitting pretty at the top. Not sure exactly who we could've added to the squad to turn those into wins, maybe Boyd would've been the answer as the stats from all 3 games (St Johnston, St Mirren and County) make it look like if we had a proven finisher like Boyd we'd have probably won those games. We had more possession, more shots on goal, more corners and played more in their final third than they did in ours. Not slating McInnes here at all, maybe playing McGinn through the middle while Zola was finding his fitness would've won those games for us. All ifs, buts and maybes like... Link to comment

The biggest game for us was Celtic. Change that loss to a win and we're level. We are doing what contenders do and beating our main rivals. The Celtic loss was huge in the context of the league. Hearts was just one of those freak results that all teams get. We must beat Celtic in a few weeks time. Link to comment
MightyDons
Great start, but still feel we should be converting more chances. McGinn needs a goal to kick start his season and Vernon needs to become more of a physical presence to be selected ahead of Zola. That will be the real difference in whether we really push on. We just need Celtic to drop points in the weeks ahead. I honestly thought they would have dropped more than they have, but Stokes and Commons have got them out of a few problematic situations this season. Link to comment

Tord31
Best start to a season in a decent while. If McGinn could find his shooting boots again we really would be motoring I think the fact there isnt five threads started with a wishlist fr January (Langfield jokes aside) is also testement to how they are getting on. Furthermore we have a good chance to build - lots of our important players are contracted for a couple seasons yet A 'Hampden' appearance and qualify for europe is the target - anything beyond that is happy happy days Link to comment
Stoney
Have to agree. The fact that we're bemoaning opportunities to be neck and neck with the league leaders rather than hoping St Mirren or Kilmarnock lose so we're not 10th is the main point here. Our mentality has been changed, dramatically.mine hasnt Link to comment
Redstar
The recent draw with St Mirren and defeat by Ross County show there is still plenty work to be done...the signing of a competent keeper(why Fatty Broon was released is baffling) would go a long way in convincing the support they are serious contenders...continuing with Langfield as No.1 is holding the club back. rossafc92
The most pleasing thing for me so far is how we coped when we were faced with an injury 'crisis' in September. It was a similar 'crisis' that killed us last term (that and other things, of course), but we got through it with little problem this time. St Mirren and County games you felt that maybe the youngsters were burning out a little having to run things in the middle of the park especially, but with Flood and Robson coming back the timing has been perfect and brought us back from that little dip before the last international break. It's been a decent start thus far. Know all too well how quickly things can change though as a Dons fan though, so definitely not getting carried away. Link to comment

Not going to get into picking out individual players either in the positive or the negative but I will rate the over all team. Over all I'm delighted with how much we've improved on previous seasons. especially in terms of attitude (in most games) although there have been some massively frustrating performances in amongst the great ones. The great fighting attitude that has seen such a massive improvement was badly lacking in what could arguably have been called the easier games & this is still a worry. They can get right up for (& have proven) in the "bigger" games but that fight & determination wasn't as obvious in the likes of the Hearts, St Mirren & County games. All three of those games had the other teams wanting it more & far more determined. We as a team approached these games poorly & hopefully McInnes can sort that out for the next "easier" type games. Simple fact is though that teams are begining to fear us again & with good reason & this can only be a good thing. We're still not firing on full, with the likes of McGinn yet to start finding his shooting boots & Robson to get some game time in, so we have this to look forward to. Link to comment
Pudgie
Games like this can go one way or another, based on the smallest of margins. Sometimes it goes our way, sometimes it doesn't - when we play teams like Motherwell who we're no better or worse than then it's just down to whatever happens on the day. The above us painfully obvious, but too many football fans (or Aberdeen fans) who sulk every time it doesn't go their way spit the dummy out and read too much into it. I think it's the way we've went out to teams in the past. Especially Hibs at Hampden and again at Easter Road. There just didn't seem to be any desire there to win. If every player can come off the park thinking "I really couldn't have done any better" then you can't blame the team. If there are players that aren't playing with 100% then that's usually when we get put out. Link to comment
Dynamo
We were terrible against St Mirren and Ross County so pleased to have bounced back with 2 wins. Hopefully 6/6 in the next two home games. Link to comment
