Mcinnes: Bringing In A Defender In January Window

Recommended Posts

Those who think that the club would actually pay a transfer fee either in January or any other time are deluded. All we can expect is another loan signing at best. Anyway, at the end of the season, out of contract players will be queuing up to join Aberdeen, seeing it as a place to win medals and challenge for the league title with a fiercely loyal and positive support.

Not sure who thinks we'd pay a fee but some players could be released from deals from clubs that have no room for them for example.

Jan is never a good time for signing players but there will be some available that we can make use of.

Loan signings would be the obvious though

Fully expect a 6 month loan deal for a centre half.

Hope to shite we are looking to sign a decent full back though!! Mcnaughton?? Nae chance but would be great!

He would be the perfect signing. He can play (& play well) anywhere across the back four & also even in def mid if required but as you say "Nae chance" because even though Cardiff have just sacked McKay. McNaughton is out on loan at Bolton & has been their first choice RB the whole time he's been there. Played full 90 in all 13 games since arriving there.

Would be delighted if McInnes managed to get him some how but it will never happen (especially not in Jan)

May actually be worth making an approach to Cardiff city for him after all.

Bolton just posted debts of almost £164m :ohttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25559504

Certainly worth a cheeky inquiry at least. They can only laugh & say no.

Kris Boyd isn't a defender.

The thread may be titled about us signing a defender but it also involves chat about other potential signings (such as keeper & Striker) so rather than start a new thread for all positions I thought I'd just use this one if that's ok with you.

We need a striker as well

I'd also like to see us giving more youngsters a game and given we need a defender what about Scott Rumsby who we've got on loan at Stranrar. I'd rather give him some game to develop as opposed to trying and helping develop Reading's youngster's who's pretty poor in my view.

As for Smith and Low I'd like to see them given a chance but not sure Low's going to cut it and suspect Storie will soon be ahead of him. Smith's a good player but is often being played out of position and gets dropped regardless of how he plays so I suspect people will soon be getting on his back in the same way they do with McGinn and Vernon when they're played out wide/midfield for not scoring.

Eh? Low has been very impressive in every game I've seen him in this season. He does need to work on his shooting from outside the box, but other than that he's been decent.

Would it be too early to look at securing Patterson and MacDonald from Hearts? That's probably the only two I'd take. I've always been impressed with MacDonald and he seems to be keeping them in with a shout of making a challenge of the -15. Patterson is young and looks better than what I've seen from Smith and McMannus. The administrators would surely have to look at any bid seriously and might get away with a bargain.
