King Street Loon
Looking for a recommendation on a bicycle. My work is moving to Kingswells, so planning on cycling everyday to and from my house. Anyone recommend a good hard wearing bike for this? Also one that I can take off-road and use up in the forest. I think the work I'm at just now do a cycle to work scheme, so might be able to do a deal through that. Any advice welcome. Cheers Link to comment
E-P-K
Pauls cycles is a fantastic website for bikes. That's where I got my Cube LTD from. And if you go for last years model you save up to 50%. Link to comment

danger_mouse
looking at getting a road bike myself, hoping to do the inverurie bike race this year then hopefully the London-surrey 100 next year Link to comment
hopeisimportant
DO NOT BUY A PUSHBIKE FROM HALFORDS AS THEY ARE SHIT AND FALL APART INSIDE OF A FEW WEEKS It would never be my shop of choice when buying a bike but I got a Boardman Hybrid from there just over a year ago and it's been great. It was through the cycle to work scheme and I didn't have a choice but to use Halfords but no complaints. KSL, I guess it depends what your budget it so find out what shops you can use and go and ask the staff in there for some advice. Then ignore it and buy the one that looks the coolest. tainboy
KSLWhen you say off-road how off-road do you mean? Proper mountain biking or off-road tracks? You'll never get a does all bike. I got a specialized cirrus elite for the long haul cycling and would make an excellent commuter bike. But got a felt q90 for off-road stuff. It's hardly turned a wheel but what I have used it for it's been unbreakable. I'd think long and hard before shelling out on a mountain bike for the road as they're not geared or equipped well for it. But if you do make sure its a hard tail with dirt track (fnarr fnarr) tyres rather than off-road ones. Narrower the better. Link to comment

StandFree1982
Halfords have some decent deals sometimes. If you do end up buying one from there, i'd recommend getting it looked over from someone who knows what they are doing as the guys working there haven't a clue. Link to comment
At The Border Guy
I’d recommend Edinburgh Bikes every time. Their own models are incredibly good value for money and mostly use name-brand components. You also get two free check-ups after 6 weeks and 1 year to tighten cables, etc. Link to comment

It's basically a road bike (before racers were called road bikes) but with some durability. As long as you're not planning jumping over really rough ground that is. Link to comment
tainboy
There's a good price on a pinnacle cobalt on Evans cycles. It's an entry level bike with decent enough parts for the price. Link to comment
Scrumpy
Sounds like you need a city bike - a hybrid bike based on a mountain bike concept so it can handle most condidtions. Link to comment
