granite sheep
The tabletop game will always be the preserve of neckbeards and geeky teens. However, the books are fuckn immense: Ciaphas Cain and Gaunts Ghosts series are fuckn immense, imo are required reading for anyone who imagines himself to be a badass (although most, like myself are overweight over the hill losers, reminicing over the old days when we we never cunts) anyway, Ciaphas Cain reads like Blackadder in the 41st millennium, with Gunner Ferik Jurgen being his Baldrick. Although Jurgen is more or less an expy of Wulf Sternhammer. Anyone read better than the first two examples, could do with recommendations. Also, anyone recs Sharpe: I've read most of the Napolenic Wars ones, however his newer books (when Sharpe was a Sarge and at the height of his powers), go for it. Link to comment

I've tried reading 40k stuff in the past... those books I've read have been tedious and badly written. Even the audio versions haven't kept my interest. I'm currently trying to wade through 1632, an alternate history of the 30 years war in Europe, where a chunk of modern America is time-traveled back to... well.. 1632... ending up in the Holy Roman Empire. To say it's unbelievable pish would be an insult to unbelievable pish. It's well-written enough, but the Americans are all completely 2 dimensional good guys, and the Europeans are all 2 dimensional bad guys or simpletons. A typical line would be, "Zak McGruder stood 10 feet tall, like all Americans, but despite his immense size he could walk as silently as a cat. This was why the 10 Germans who were raping the helpless orphans didn't hear him approaching. Zak swept the Germans up in one mighty American paw, and smashed the German soldiers together with a bellow of victory. Through the window he could see Chuck Witkowski punching a German tank into scrap metal with his bare fists. The tank had been rolling back and forth over small children and puppies, drunken German soldiers screaming with joy every time the tracks rolled over a baby's face. Chuck was twenty feet tall, and in each pocket he held a dozen rescued nuns... GOD BLESS AMERICA!" I'm getting a little tired of it. Link to comment
Ke1t
Oh, I'm also getting through Cornwell's Saxon Stories and Warlord Series. They're pretty good, though I'm starting to get pissed that he's dragging out The Saxon Stories to book 7 already. how long does it take to get your fucking house back? Link to comment
granite sheep
Dan Abnett's stuff is solid, as is Sandy Mitchell. Dan Ward............fuck me, a perfect example of how a fanboy should never be given creative control of a franchise. His love of the Ultramarines, or Ultrasmurfs , if dome of yo found Id4chan's pages (for the hatters not knowing of the Warhammer 40000 stuff, think genetically superior ultra huns wearing tank armour as their town clothes) has fuct the whole thing. Although his depiction of Khorne, the Blood God as being a red clad nutter who wants one thing from his subject (namely, BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE). Fuck, I love the character. Link to comment
granite sheep
It has to be stated that the Angry Marines are fuckin awesome, they are the ASC in spirit, though withyellow body armour and red trim, wtf? However, they as a fictional pile of cunts, have the best warcry ever: "ALWAYS ANGRY.......ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!" Link to comment
daytripping
Jay Allan is the only author that you need to know about, only one book but it's class, trust me. Link to comment
granite sheep
Bloody Casuals. Required reading for a Dandie. Have a couple of United fans reading it now. It still has to be said though, "ALWAYS ANGRY. ALL THE TIME." is the slogan for all AFC supporters clubs now and forevermore Link to comment
granite sheep
If naebody's seen it, search "Angry Marines* on ID4chan's boards, immense. Just how the ASC would conduct business if they could have pavement dancing before glassing the xenos..... Link to comment
