ericblack4boss
Just thought I'd use the week running up to this year's final, to look at previous finals starting with the Skol cup 85/86.Aberdeen started the campaign at home to Ally Macleod's Ayr United. The Somerset Park outfit were duly dispatched with ease after a brace each by McDougall, and Stark and a strike from new signing Tommy McQueen, saw them soundly thumped 5-0. Round 3 saw a trip to Muirton park against div 2 side St.Johnstone, and despite the gulf between the two sides the dons, struggled to a 2-0 win Hewitt, and McDougall on target. In other ties For far gave Rangers a real fright the game being played at Dens Park saw the Angus side take Rangers all the way to penalties before the Glasgow side overcame the div2 side. Elsewhere St Mirren. Hibernian, and Celtic scored 17 goals between them in their respective victories. The last 8 saw Aberdeen back at home with Hearts as the visitors a tough game on paper and so it proved Eric Black scored the only goal as progression to the last 4 was secured, and still without Jim Leighton having to pick the ball out of his net.The last 4 saw the almost compulsory semi against Dundee Utd. A two legged affair, was sure to be a tough tie, with nothing between them and after two 1-0 wins by the Dons. The second leg at Pittodrie saw Dundee Utd keeper Hamish McAlpine at his last game after 20 years at Tannadice and the chance to win his first Skol cup presented itself to Alex Ferguson. So to the final Hibernian were to be the opponents, and the dons lined up with Leighton. McKimmie. Mitchell. Stark. McLeish. Miller. Black. Simpson. McDougall. Cooper. Hewitt. The final was over within the first half, Black scoring early, and adding a second with Stark completing a comprehensive win. Link to comment

robbojunior
I was there. Could be wrong but seem to remember it was the same day as the grand national was run that year? EDIT: clearly thinkin about a different game! Another 3-0 victory against Hibs in April around that time - Scottish cup semis maybe?EDIT EDIT: just looked it up - must have been the Scottish Cup semi in 1986. 5th April - 3-0 win at Dens Park Link to comment
