Recommended Posts

Aberdeen started the campaign with a game against Brechin city at Pittodrie, they were hastily dispatched 5-1 Joe Miller getting a hat trick . Along with Irvine and Hewitt.

The next round saw another home tie with St Johnstone the visitors and again the win was straightforward, Davie Dodds, Ferguson's last signing before his departure, got a brace and Jim Bett got the other as a 3-0 saw the sons progress to the last 8.

In the last 8 Celtic were the visitors and a solitary goal from Jim Bett was enough to whether dons through to a semi final meeting with Dundee,

The semi final clash saw the Dens Park side taken care of with goals from Brian Irvine and Bobby Connor.

So to the final, Rangers awaited and at that stage no one knew that this league cup final was to be the first in an epic trilogy, that was to supply fantastic finals fitting for the occasion.

On their first final under Ian Porterfield the dons lined up with

Leighton.Mckimmie.Connor. Simpson. McLeish. W Miller. Hewitt. Better. J Miller. Nicholas. Falconer.

Subs Weir. Grant.

The dons got an early goal after Nicky Walker( yes that one) pulled down Falconer and Jim Bett, as usual hammered home the penalty. David Cooper equalised with free kick that flashed past Leighton on the way in and back out! Rangers went in at the break ahead after Durrant fired home. The dons then went ahead after Hewitt and Falconer struck past butter fingers. Before Fleck squared.up the score with just 5 mins left. No goals in extra time meant penalties. And the only kicked missed was by Peter Nicholas who smashed his off the bar and consign the dons to an agonising defeat.

Least you can appreciate what I'm going through right noo :).

You have my full sympathy. Blotted my copy book at a Dr Feelgood concert I went to with a mate. Told her I wouldn't drink but had six pints. It was a great concert. After that I apparantly "Couldn't be trusted" hence the ban.
