Ke1t
Would you like your child to be taught how to speak indian instead of englishwhen you live in an english speaking country you are either pretty dumb or a very bad fisherman I don't think I'm dumb, and I'm definitely not fishing, so that would mean you're positing a fallacy of logic, in this case the false dichotomy. Not just regarding my question but regarding the article. You may or may not deliberately be doing so, I'd be guessing if I tried answering that question, to be honest. But that article doesn't say they're learning Indian, or any other language than English as their primary language. In fact the article cites around 55 nationalities, "We have children from every African country, every European country, and just about anywhere ending in –stan." What it says is that a great many of their students don't speak Englsh as their primary language, so they're having to teach it as a foreign language, which it is, as a means of getting their students up to speed. This doesn't mean they've stopped teaching in English, or that English isn't the primary language of the school. So all this article is saying is that students are learning English because many of them don't speak it or aren't particularly proficient. This makes perfect sense. So, I'll ask you again, what is the problem here, specifically? 2 Link to comment

Guest
It's been a while since we've had a thread born from your racist agenda caledonia. Fuck knows why you thought this was the right time. I'm not even going to read the link cos I'm not interested. I can hear your mind working from here. Yes I agree that a lack of assimilation is a massive problem in the UK, as it is in the US. But it's simple. Divided and conker and fall and stand etc. It's not the immigrants you should vent your ire at. It's your governors. 2 Link to comment
spamspamspam
In britain english should always be a first language So you'd rather they had 2 classes doing the same thing? One teaching the UK born kids that cant speak the language properly because their mum and dad are far too busy arguing on Jeremy Kyle to actually teach their kids and the other for the Eastern Euro kid that's English is about as good as the Jeremy Kyle orphans? Given that most who have learned English as a second language have better language skills than most "native speakers" I would say this sounds like a remarkably good idea. Link to comment
dave_min
so what nationality would you pick for your childs language They should be fluent in at least English, French and one of either Spanish or German. They'll be forced this from an early age as learning a language later on is a right cunt. Link to comment

SheepieBaaBaa
Head teacher Georgiana Sale said "it had been decided to include pupils who have English as a first language in this programme because in the “vast majority” of cases their level of formal English was not good enough to allow them to achieve top grades at GCSE." Well, they're not for British kids, they're for Chinese kids who's parents want them taught in English. Mate of mine works in one. Get a fucking grip of yourself you idiot. Flying a saltire, slagging huns and tims, I'm sure you'll have directed some remark about them being bigots at some point yet running some baseless, racist rant about schools in England that are catering for none English kids. Ke1t
what the fuck does american schools in china got to do with it you fucking tool I think what has happened here is that you've misunderstood the article. This isn't entirely your fault because the article isn't very informative. I think you're under the impression that English has been relegated to to a secondary language, whereas what has happened is the school is teaching English to foreign students who have no, or little, English. They're also putting the slower English kids into this class because they don't even have a grasp on English... supposedly their primary language. In my opinion this is LONG over-fucking-due. English will still be the primary language, which is why they're going to the trouble of offering English lessons to non-English speaking students. If they don't understand the language (English) then they're going to have one fuck of a time learning anything else. Hopefully this clarification will calm your tits a little bit. 6 Link to comment

English is still the first language in this school, its just the locals arent that good at it either, they are all being taught the same to get them up to a level where they can scrape a pass.Doesnt that say more about the parents than the culture, immigrants or the schools themselves? It shouldnt, it should be taught from nursery and Spanish, French and Mandarin should be taught as standard from p1 onwards. We live in a very small world, we're being arrogant expecting that world to learn our language considering its not the most common language in the world and it'll soon loose second and third place as well. Ke1t
I have nothing against any language being taught but it should be as a second language Every other language is subordinate to English, that's why they're teaching their students English; so that the kids can all sit and learn in English. Now, in the Southern US it's Spanish that's beginning to emerge as the primary language, and kids are being taught in Spanish, that being the primary language. But in the face of Spanish supplanting English as the primary language, I would ask, "Why would I give a fuck?" English isn't Scotland's native language, Caledonia, mate. Can I ask how much Gaelic you speak? Personally I don't give a fuck if I speak English, Indian, Spanish, or Esperanto... I truly do not give a fuck. I wonder why anyone does. The only reason I can see for particularly desiring English as my primary language is that all the best films are in English. Other than that, I'd refer you back to the line where I twice pointed out that I do not give a fuck. Link to comment
