E-P-K
Well done to Alex Neil and Norwich. Said on the radio it was one year to the day that he took Hamilton up via the Playoffs - history repeats itself in the same day. Stephen Fry, fat pederast and Norwich fan, was in the crowd - giving it big-licks, an oscar-worthy performance as though he was just "enjoying the game" (he knows full well cameras are on him, of course. Everything about Fry is meticulously staged managed). Its said that Norwich now get a £150m windfall for promotion. How many years worth of budget would that be for us? (Football money is quite ridiuclous, when you think theres folk starving, isnt it?) Anyway glad to see a Scots manager do well - and glad that the EPL now has at least one Scots manager again. They must be minted, promoted 2 years ago to the same windfall, then the copious amounts of parachute payments last season. Link to comment

Make more money staying up than you do being relegated and coming back up. Had this very discussion yesterday with a boy who reckons you're better off going up, being relegated and then going back up again. He couldn't understand that the parachute payment is to compensate for not getting shit loads of money for being in the Premier division. Him: "The Playoff final is worth 100 million though." Me: "Aye but if you stay up you get that anyway as all the fucking teams in the Premier league get at least as much as the Playoff winners. Get relegated and you get the parachute payment which isn't as much." Him: But they get a parachute payment and 100 million for the Playoff final." Me: "I give up." Link to comment

I know I know, I take the £120M for playoff final very much tongue in cheek. Norwich total revenue from the season they were in the Championship 3 years ago = £78.7M Norwich total revenue from the season they were in the Premier league 2 years ago = £95.5M So, in realty, it was worth less than £20M to Norwich last time up. True, a transfer fee was about the only financial topic that was ever reported. No one cared about income, share price, wages, turnover-to-wage ratio etc. Link to comment

Its about time you get trolled en masse. More for educational purposes, to show you the shallowness of your AFC career, with the goal to make you less of an uber geek. Link to comment

robbojunior
What makes football pish is not money itself, it's the distribution of money. In fact that's the problem with society as well. Obviously the best teams should earn the most money, but football (and society) would be infinitely better if the distribution of money was much more evenly spread. Rather than, the top 5% get 95% of the money. Unfortunately most folk are naturally greedy. Link to comment

boboisared
Not saying it's a solution but a salary cap may help The Australian Football League has implemented a salary cap on its clubs since 1987, when Brisbane and West Coast were admitted, as part of its equalization policy designed to neutralize the ability of the richest and most successful clubs, Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon, to perennially dominate the competition. The cap was set at A$1.25 million for 1987–1989 as per VFL agreement, with the salary floor set at 90% of the cap or $1.125 million; the salary floor was increased to 92.5% of the cap in 2001, and to 95% of the cap for 2013 onwards due to increased revenues. The salary cap, known officially as Total Player Payments, is A$10,070,000 for the 2014 season with a salary floor of $9,566,500 except for Greater Western Sydney, whose salary cap is $10,500,000 with a floor of $9,996,500.Both the salary cap and salary floor has increased substantially since the competition was re-branded as the AFL in 1990 to assist in stemming the dominance of other high membership clubs, such as Adelaide, Hawthorn and the West Coast Eagles.Certain payments are excluded from the cap, and concessions are available for some players, in particular "veteran" players (those over the age of 30 and/or who have completed 10 seasons with their current club) and "nominated" rookie list players, who are discounted by 30% or 50% for purposes of the cap, depending on the number of these players at each club. The AFL Players Association negotiates for players with the AFL on the topic of average salary 'mon min. Salary cap set at max wage of £30,000 per player a week as not to hinder Celtic. Inflated each season too. Link to comment

Money earned isn't massively different as can be shown in the club figures for the last time they went up and down. Link to comment
