Mick Fanning - Surfer

It's amazing footage and even more amazing that he escaped unscathed. Hard to know whether the shark was just being curious, or realised late that the surfer wasn't what it was expecting!

I know this was in South Africa, but you couldn't pay me enough to swim out that far off the coast in Australia. Since I've lived here, on average there have been at least a couple of surfers taken off the coast of WA every year... some of them fatal.

Do you get out surfing down that way?

I've done a bit out this way when I first came out... great fun, but I couldn't relax fully due to that thought in that back of my mind. I do a fair bit of beach fishing and speaking to some of the local fishermen, some of them wouldn't even consider swimming on the beaches out here, such is the concentration of sharks.

Aye I go out all the time. Great part of the world for it, and nae fear of having your legs eaten.

I went out for a late evening swim when I was in Perth years ago and when I got back the folk I was staying with went mental, I didn't realise that's nae the best idea.

This is a lot like First Blood, starring the popular actor Sylvester Stallone.

After John Rambo goes mental and runs off into the forest, the cops go after him with the intention of recapturing or killing him. Unfortunately for the cops John Rambo is highly skilled in the art of forest/jungle warfare, and using these skills he incapacitates, deliberately not killing (with the exception of the guy in the chopper with the scoped rifle), incapacitates his pursuers.

Later the news reports on the incident, saying that it was only their leet training and rock hardedness that kept them alive in the face of their mad, mental adversary, when in fact it's only the fact that John Rambo didn't want to kill them that kept them alive. Otherwise they'd have been toast.

That shark would have snapped the surfer in half with one bite of its mighty jaws if it had so desired, and it was only the fact that the shark was just dicking around that the guy survived, not because "he did everything right".
